This piece that fits on the end inside the shroud will hopefully be transferred this month.

Sounds to me like Dan is waiting for his "transfer" to be approved, meaning he has paid his $200, and had is background check, and is waiting on the papers to come thru, to go to his class III dealer to get the "device" transferred into his possession.

I'm not a gun guy so just looking for some clarification. If the neighbors are close enough for a 22 to disturb them is it legal to shot that close to a residence? I thought there was a rule that you had to be xxx number of yards from a structure to shoot.

Depends on state and local laws/regulations. A .22 is loud even a good distance away.

Sound like being a good neighbor, even if they're "gun friendly", they wouldn't be bothered or distracted by the noise.

A good suppressor is also good for a lot of varmints, if you pop one, the others usually just keep on doing whatever they were doing, if they hear the crack of a rifle, then the rest just take off

In Michigan you have to be 400 feet away to ' hunt '... But you can target shoot as close as you want. Most folks out here in the country are pretty discrete about their shooting, but their are a few idiots everywhere..... :) I have a Marlin bull bareled 22 bolt, and have plunked quite a few critters with the sub-sonics thru the years...

Of course the longer the barrel the quieter the shot will be, as this allows pressures to start to subside a bit, and cools the gas a bit also. And a bolt or lever or pump action will be a bit quieter than a semi-auto blow-back action because some noise escapes when the semi-auto bolt opens, as well as the clatter of the action cycling. Now none of this including a suppressor will prevent the supersonic crack of the bullet breaking the sound barrier after it leaves the muzzle. So choice of ammunition is critical to not break the sound barrier on suppressed firearms. I was seriously thinking about getting a suppressed .22, but with the pending legislation regarding threaded barrels (manufacture totally banned for some stupid reason)seemingly more onerous than even the current NFA regulations, I am not sure I want to delve into it.

James, I like a lot of your posts but here you leave me scratching my head. It is the execution of rights that ensures their continued existence. If you ever stop to let the government define "good" much less "moral", it's not your life but the life they're willing to allow you for now. Treat it as defining moment and if it all comes to an end then you can at least tell yourself you tried. If you want it and get it then it's worth the hassle. A hassle has never stopped me.

My read is 16" is optimal for the 22lr. Less or more results in a drop of velocity. With CCI standard velocity controlling the fps to 1070 by adding a heavier bullet that I want anyway and my actual barrel length prior to the suppressor being 12.5", I expect little chance of supersonic crack.

I took it to the ranch and ran some standard velocity Winchester promo stuff through it without the yet to arrive suppressor. All the parts work well together and though I have some "banana" clips laying around, I like the flush fit of the factory magazine. It's presently my favorite gun although that rubber overmold on the stock sure likes to pick up dust. Maybe there's a break in.

You make a good point Dan.

Order the barrel from Tactical Solutions. I have no use for a suppressed pistol but realize they also sell pistol barrels which means the suppressor would be useable on both.

Go fetch you a box of sub-sonics and give them in a try. I have a Marlin 22LR 880SQ [ bull barrel bolt 5 shot clip ] and use German 40 grains.. I used to live down in civilization and you weren't supposed to even pass gass loudly, and these are pretty quiet and accurate. If you define fun as blowing a woodchuck in half then these are not for you... but get one with a descrete shot at range is fun for me, don't cost much, and you feel like you actually made a good shot.... :)
