Right we are not talking about a period of depression or anxiety brought on by an event or circumstances, we are talking about known biological mental health issues and organic cognitive disorders. I am no expert but I would think we would look at bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's, and such as a starting point for evaluating mental capacity to possess dangerous weapons.

However, in a large part thanks to your telephone calls and e-mail messages, the Illinois House decided that it would not vote on the anti-gun amendment to SB 2899, and did not even hear this amendment in committee. The announcement of this decision was made by state Representative Elaine Nekritz, Chairman of the House committee where this bill had been sent. I found this interesting and relevant to this discussion, though I weary of all or nothing extremists on all sides of the argument.
We need to try to keep an open mind here, the topic is too important and let's not be so arrogant to think we automatically have the right and only answer.
Times change, we need to change with them. And compromise. And adapt.

But don't send me out with a spear against the sabre tooth. Common sense would suggest a poor outcome.
Nor will I climb into that railroad car and be hauled off to my death.
Compromise can only go so far. We are supposed to be intelligent, we need to find the right balance.
