My 4 1/2 year old Blackberry Curve died on me early in November of last year and I replaced it with a Droid Razr Maxx. Since the Droid uses an 8 mp camera as compared to the 2 mp on the older device, and I live on the very fringe of Verizon cell service, I had expected the new Droid would be as slow or slower when sending digital pictures. Much to my amazement, the new one sends digipics in about 15-20 seconds while the Blackberry took 2-3 minutes. One factor that may be affecting the fast uploads: I have the Droid set to hook up wirelessly with the Verizon DSL router in the house when I am near enough, could the connection to that router have any influence on upload speeds?

Thanks for your input.

You are now connecting to a close wired connection rather than relying completely on a wireless cell phone tower. Should be faster if your phone companies switching station is not too far away and their equipment is fairly new to handle multiple internet connections. Good for you !!

Absolutely! The wifi in your house is very fast compared to the cellular service that your old BB was using. You probably could have set the blackberry up to use your home network, too.

Odd thing is, even when I am not connected to my home wifi router like when I am outdoors the Droid still sends pictures really fast. I did try to set up the BB to use the router but the OS limited so many new apps and I could not upgrade the software.

Likely your new Droid is using 4G connections on the cell network and your old Blackberry was 3G

That may have a lot to do with it, but being in the country means I barely have half a bar of 4G service....makes me envious of the city folks sometimes.

Wise man say half bar of 4g better than 5 bars 3g.

Who is saying I am a wise man....??? And FYI I never saw more than 2 1/2 bars of 3G here. When I had my second Blackberry back about 2002, the wireless coverage Verizon provided then cut off completely a half mile north of me.

Some of it is due to the much faster processor in the new phone.
