Those afraid to step on someone's toes will never speak freely, I have no problem with that.

I started the thread to show a new concept truck, if someone's pissed off I really don't care...

I've read plenty of threads here by others who are completely unafraid to insult other member's vehicles. My BIL and my neighbor are also members here and I've had a few face to face conversations with them about it.

And yeah your're right, I'm under 40 :). Apps and technology are good though. They make life easier.

Sometimes, easier is not what is best for us.

These technologies being discussed are pretty impressive - when they work as intended.

Again, yesterday, there was a news item about a lady ending up 900 miles off course, because she obediently followed the directions from her GPS. Some of these type of GPS goof ups have been lethal.

The first thing a GPS manual tells you is to have backup paper maps available. That warning is there, not just because their corporate lawyers tell 'em it has to be, because it is very good advice for everybody to follow.

One of my favourite billboard quotes (channeling LA Story) is "The Danger, is not that Computers will start thinking like Humans..."

I drive an older Ford, and like it. This new concept looks a bit too blingy (Lincolnesque) for my taste, but I can understand it being a fit for the market segment that they are chasing.

That diesel Toyota came up in another recent thread on diesels. In that thread, I got to ask an owner in NZ about real world fuel mileage - I'd buy that truck platform (prefer the L'Cruiser), with that diesel, in a heartbeat.

IMO, the big difference with an onboard one is that it can tell exactly how hard you are pushing the brakes rather than guessing based on g forces. That helps if you are on something slippery enough that ABS kicks in. Make sit harder for your trailer to pass the truck that way.

Thanks Aaron, this I did not realize. I could see that being a benefit. Still not sold on the nav. systems though. I use the wife's portable unit on very rare occasions because I find it a little easier to find an exact address, but I believe many people become way too reliant on them because they are, admittedly, very convenient. I think many people live by them and I question if they could get home if they ever went on a trip using one and it broke or got lost.

I think overall it is a good thing but a little common sense is always required. I think the women that ended up 900 miles off course was probably lacking in the common sense department. You have to have absolutely no idea what direction you're going to end up that far off. I've keyed in locations on my GPS before and it's been wrong but I know the general area I'm going so I have it recalculate and it usually gets it right. I'm a firm believer though that people have successfully found their destinations a lot more then not.

My truck allows me to send directions to it from my home computer. I also like that it syncs up with my IPhone the minute I sit down. I can play music off my IPhone without even plugging anything in! I can also hit a button and tell it to call my wife without even taking my hands off the steering wheel. My truck and I are close... We've had some long conversations :)

In my truck apps, I can program several different trailers to my trailer brake. For instance, I can jump in and hit #2, all my presets kick in, and I'm off.

I think too many of us are afraid of technology. Maybe it's a loss of control for some. For others it's an uncomfortable step out of our routine. All in all, it's a good thing makes life easier.

My in-laws just recently bought a new Ford Edge with some extra gadgets. I think they were overwhelmed with all the new technology and scared to touch anything. I told them they needed to start touching everything. Nothing is going to break and its the best way to figure things out. Now they always call us and give us the "guess what I figured out today" speech. Pretty funny...

Here's another good one...

Oh how we are going to be in for some fun in the next 2-5 years. It wont be long before drive by hacking on the interstate crashes your truck and leaves you stranded on the side of the road requiring a tow to the dealer and $1000 computer reflash with no effective software fix for at least 6 months, so your only choice is to risk it happening every day or just park it at home with the battery disconnected.

Ill drive past pointing and laughing in my not newer than 2005 vehicle.

HA! HA! That's a good one! You keep driving your old trucks and I'll keep driving the new ones! If a "drive by hacking" occurs you can drive by and say "told you so!"

You sure those old trucks are even safe though? I heard the government has secret chips in them monitoring your every movement. To be on the safe side, you might want to stick to your bicycle. :)

No worries, I have my old truck totally wrapped in 10 layers of tinfoil, with 4 GoPro cameras mounted on each vertical face ! :cool2:

See.... it is a conspiracy ! There is no Tinfoil Hat Smiley !

(Tinfoil hat or no, the people that have had vehicle black box evidence used against them in court likely never gave their permission for that data to be accessed in the vehicle that they "own".)

nothing like dusting off 11 year old designs and calling them "new"

unimpressed. period

I am not impressed with the styling of this yellow truck.
The suicide doors look nice but having to open the front for rear access is a HUGE negative.
You cannot rotate the the rims and tires on this dually.
The front clip to tailgate is from a decade ago.
Too many plastic side pannels on the side for a real truck used in the woods.
Body repair down the road would cost too much and be too labor intensive.
They could have gone back to a few more decades and had a better looking truck.

I still have a "clip" that is attached to a *magnet that I used to keep important papers on that was on my old metal dashboard (to keep them from flying out the "fly" windows).
(this is a history quiz for you young gadget guy's)

*just like the old CB mic holder

Yup.
I had one on my 1976 F150.
Loved those old metal dash boards
