Weather report. How cold?

It was 20 degrees on the porch this morning but 16 degrees once we got away from the house! Now, I know this is in NORTH Carolina but we are still below the Mason Dixon line which I thought was supposed to keep this cold air up Nawth! I will be writing my Congress Critter! :laughing::laughing::laughing: I think the forecast was supposed to be 20 or 22 in the city but it is always colder out in the country since we don't get the heat island effect. The forecast is for 19 over the weekend.

The coldest it has been at our house is 9 degrees.

When I get home today, I am going to line up the chickens and the family so that we all face Nawth. Then we will flap our arms or wings, which ever is species correct, and try to get this cold air back up where it belongs!

our dogs have never had a night indoors in their life , leave the garage door open with a heat lamp in there and they will still sleep out in the snow in -40

Yup, if they live outside they get pretty tough. After all their wild cousins live outside all winter, no problem. Even at -50...

It would depend on the breed/coat characteristics I think. Can a short-haired, single coat dog stay outside all night below 20*F or so?

Surprisingly we used to have a dalmation that was free to go into a barn whenever and he often slept outside too in winter . seems the big dogs will take cold over being penned in ?

Was -10 degrees here this morning at 0630. I cut wood all day, didn't quite get to 0. As I'm typing it's -8 with the wind blowing hard.

You would be surprised how shaggy a short haired dog gets 'if' they are allowed to acclimatize. 20F is nothing for most breeds. We had a GSD and a Wolfhound live outside all winter one year ( with shelter ) and they would not stay in the house if they were brought in. Humans will adapt to some pretty crazy temps also.

I wouldn't have guessed that for a Dalmatian. GSD and Wolfhound, yes.

Well, last night the low was -11*F, high today hovered around zero. -8*F now, and supposed to get down to -15*F. There is a chilly wind too. On the bright side, today was clear blue skies, had good solar pv production and the sun warmed the house up.
