There are carbon cannister filters that will eliminate the stink, but they have to be changed from time to time.

remember that everything going into your septic tank is going to take up space so air is going to be displaced up the pipe to allow the liquids and solids to enter the tank.Air straight out of the septic tank spouting off the end of the pipe up on the roof.

Not so sure about that. The tank has a static level. When new "material" enters the tank, an equivalent amount of water is discharged into the leach system.

I stand corrected, I forgot about that part but I still think there's a burp up and out and then a slow inhale as the fluids dissipate.

Since the vent pipe forms a direct line to the smelly part of the sewage system, why would you not expect to be able to sewage in it?

Man, I don't think I'd sewage in the vent pipe - can only make it worse!

True except that in the tank a lot of solid/liquid material turns to gas as it decomposes and that has a much larger volume. That's what goes up the stack.

Yes, I did a bad edit, and left out the word smell.

Sorry, my secretary is off today. :confused3:

according to my plumber, you should be more worried if you don't smell anything! pull a sink trap and you should get the same odor (keep a rag handy to plug it up). the stink tells you it's working.
