anyone running synthetic motor oil in their diesel-------supposidly better lub with lower wear if one believes the hype- if you are-what brand, how often do you change it and does it affect tractor performance--thanks -getting near time for maint and thinking this might be the way to go.

I run Amsoil in everything I have that has a crankcase. I am convinced it made the difference in my 2000 F150 ....put 250k on it and never had a problem with the motor. I traded it when I started hearing noises in the running gear that sounded $$$ AND it was 10 yrs old and I wanted a new one....the noise just gave me the excuse I needed. I change oil and filter on my cars/trucks every 5k. Lawnmowers once a year and tractor every 100hrs which runs around 6 - 8 months for me.

I run Rotella T6 5-40 in my BX. Considering I only change the oil once a year I feel it is worth the few extra bucks. I also use Synthetic oils in both the car and the truck.

I use synthetic in all of my engines as well. Rotella in kubota and SuperTech (Walmart) brand in all else. I figure it won't hurt and may help and doesn't cost that much more. Kubota and other small engines get changed once a year and cars twice a year. For sure it makes a difference in the cold weather.

Whatever's on sale. My B2400 call for type CC or CD oils. Today, all oils meet that requirement. I change the oil and filter once per year. For me, that works out to be about 60 hours. Scheduled oil change interval is 100 hours. Oil filter change is 200 hours.

Synthetics have definite advantages in environments such extended periods at maximum loads in extreme heat or cold.
Synthetics also provide longer service life if you are looking to minimize operating costs but you need to monitor the condition with oil analysis to safely achieve that goal.
They do provide exceptional protection for long term ownership but I don’t think anyone here would be able to quantify the difference in operating life between mineral oil and synthetics.
Most of us don’t operate in extremely hot environments at sustained maximum loads; however we do use our machines in extreme cold to clear snow.
Having said that; I use synthetics year round so vehicles start easier and build oil pressure much quicker during the winter months.
And of course it is peace of mind!
