i sugest you check your wireing and see if the amp meter is wired to show net charge / discharge.

if so, alt and ignition and lamps are one one side of alt.. and the battery ALONE is on the other side.

as said. 1 wire alts take high rpm to excite.. but once excited generally will still charge at lower rpms down to about 500 rpm or so.

that's why I like the 3 wire alts.. not the 1 wire.

3 wire are cheaper too. and 99% as easy to wire up.. really only 1 more wire.. and a 194 lamp or didoe..e tc..

roger tried to respond to your message but could not get it to work. if you have access to fax machine i can get the instruction sheet for you to look at. installation requires the unit to be somewhat disassembled and as stated before the trio which is easily recognized and jumper wires installed you can determine how far to go with this. the hardest part is not breaking the brushes taking unit apart not a problem when reassembling unit because you can take a paper clip and secure brushes for install of regulator and removed before testing. just let me know.

If it came with a voltage regulator, it will be very easy to replace. They are usually mounted in an accessible area. Around 40 bucks for my backhoe at NAPA. don-ohio

1 and 3 wire delco 'SI' alts use an intrnal vreg.. not the old external vregs like DN series.
