MB Trac1500

To kick this thread off, here's one of my favourites:

An MB Trac1500 4x4 150hp tractor, uses about 5.5 gallons/hr in heavy loading, fitted with:-
- selectable 2/4WD with on board air compressor (air assisted brakes/cont
- selectable front/rear diff locks
- 14 Gears in forward & reverse 1.9-40kph + 7 crawler gears 0.20 - 1.7kph
- 540/100rpm PTO front & rear 103PTO HP
- 3PL front 2.5T capacity with 4 hyd remotes/ rear 6.5T capacity with 6 hyd remotes
- AC cab with reversible console
- Removable rear FEL (well it is the "ront end" when the consoles switched) & font blade

:thumbsup:Sure does, the Claas MB powered headers are one fine machine for clean samples - that's thing about merc engines you either love or **** hate 'em...

I like the Mercedes Benz diesels I have seen in forage harvesters, Claas and Krone were both using them. Yet I went to a farm show last week and both are now using MAN diesels and it seems the change has happened within the last year or so. I wonder why and why both would switch at the same time? I don't think the 2 are connected in any way are they?

Both in their larger machines were using twin inline 6 Mercedes connected together on their larger units, now both are using MAN V12's.

I think Claas in the "smaller" units is still using Mercedes but the larger ones are MAN, Krone I think they are all MAN.

As far as I know Claas are only using MAN's in their largest Forage Harvester the 970 & 980 - I suspect the change to MAN's was related to the HP required as these are both c.800hp & up machines (which I understand in Europe they are marketing also to wood chip harvesting).

We're still running a 2006 Claas 870 with c.2500hrs on the MB V8 LM502 457hp engine (photo below) which is still a good machine & whilst we'd like to upgrade to a larger new machine it's hard to justify given the investment (& IMO Merc has better back up/support than MAN over here)

The next capital purchase we have scheduled is for either a 770 or 780 Terra Trac Claas Lexion Header (+ for various reasons either a Case 9230 or 8230) - the Claas 770/780's also run the V8 Merc LM502's, interestingly the smaller Lexion are still running Cat's like our our 2006 "legacy" Claas 580R Lexion Header which runs a C13 Cat.
