Thanks for the feedback. I'm not wasting my money on a HF engine.

I put a HF engine on my splitter two years ago. It cost $99 and has run flawlessly. Once installed and setup it started on the second pull of the starter rope. Would I call it high quality? No. Does it do the job at the OEM specs? Without question. If it craps out in a year or two, I've gotten $99 dollars worth already.

Good feedback. Does it look like the Hondas?

The HF predator engine for $99 bucks you can't go wrong, Someone i know put one on a plate compactor and runs great. To me its a honda clone as said in a previous post, By the way the plate compactor is being used by a paving company and still running.

Actually it looks like the Northern Tool Powerhorse line of small engines. I really haven't looked at the Hondas closely to say if it is a close match or not. If the HF engine will last 5 or 6 years the cost of the engine will work out to 15 to 20 dollars a year. That will be less expensive than a Briggs or Honda that lasts 10 years which would work out to be 25 to 35 dollars per year for the same hp engine (5 or 6 hp). My last two engines, a Tecumseh and a Briggs, on the log splitter did not last 10 years (the splitter is 23 years old).
