You guys can have that also. My first two vehicles had them, a car and a truck. I will never go back. Tough in my line of work to pull a boat pushing 25,000# from the drink with one. And with todays autos versus the ones we had just 10 years ago there is no advantage in my eyes.

Chris

If you can't pull that boat out with a manual 6 speed vs your auto you need to learn how to drive a clutch. Oh and the de rated cummins with the 6 speed is still rated higher than your 6.0.

Mom had a pickup that had a door open backup alarm that was most annoying.

When hitching a trailer, and I need to move 2", I often like to have the door open and watch the ground, and the pickup then beeps and beeps and beeps.

Her car just beeps (inside, not outside) whenever she puts it in reverse.
there are lots of trucks that straight blow the horn if you put it in reverse with the door open and the seatbelt off!

Not surprised, I bet if Ford stopped selling trucks with windshields you'd say wearing goggles is better too!
There's plenty of advantages and longevity is the top, along with manual engine braking, more direct power to the wheels, cheaper MSRP, and 10 points added to your man card which should replace some lost by having a "man step".

Also, the RAM has hill start assist so no roll back and has a lower 1st gear. G56 has something like 6.29:1 vs 3.23 for the 6 speed auto.
nope! not gonna have a g56! when Dodge got rid of my NV5600 they ended the manual for me! i will not buy a truck that had to be de-rated to keep the trans alive! i can guarantee that i have as much engine braking with my 68RFE that anyone with the G has! and i can actually slow down faster with it!

Now Dodge guys love them because that was the only chance they had to get a transmission to last and they had to derate them to accomplish that.
Still stuck in the 90's...
The RAM's auto transmission as been very good since 03 which is more than can be said for Ford's engine lineup. : laughing:

Burn!
Keep in mind Chris doesn't understand gearing as we've discovered in previous threads.
With the 6.29:1 1st gear, that "de-rated" Cummins could idle that 25k lb boat up any ramp without a sweat.

By the way people, the Cummins was not "de-rated" for the manual tranny. It was though bumped up to 800lb-ft in the auto version to compete with the others. No need to bump up the manual backed engine, no competition...

Reasons I hate New trucks and won't buy one:

-No manual transmissions
-Full of electronic 'nanny's' (traction control, braking controls, hill descent controls, etc etc)
-GPS/Nav crap
-WAY Excessive body work/sheet metal (horrible ground clearance AND bedsides/tailgate that are higher than your chest)
-Electric everything
-Too plush an interior even in the base models
-MSRP greater than that of a small house

Granted, not all models have all these problems, but this is the way the industry is going in general. I truly think if one of the MFG's would come out with a basic work truck without all that crap they would really sell. Till that happens I think I'll have to go find a nice 70's or 80's vintage truck and completely rebuild it from the ground up to get a decent work truck.

No, it wouldn't. My father has a '10 3500 cab chassis Dodge with the 6.7L Cummins/6spd that we use for hauling hay. The low end torque is dismal and you really have to abuse the clutch to get a big load (20K) moving on a steep hill. As much as I hate it I see why many of the MFG's are going with an auto behind these new diesels. They won't put proper low gears in the rear end any more because of fuel economy so they have to make up for it with the torque converter. Gearing is key as you stated, but they aren't geared nearly low enough for the kinds of weight they are rated for.

Don't know what is wrong with your fathers truck my 6speed pulls any load better than my 2010 dodge auto my ford 2008 6.4 auto my ford 06 6.0 auto. Don't have to rude the clutch or "abuse" as you put it at all. The low end in my truck is also better than a y of the trucks I just listed too.

There may not be anything wrong with it, I might just be expecting too much. 20K is a lot of weight to tow with a pickup (despite what they are rated at.) My comparisons are a C60 Chevy and a 4700 International which both handle a 20K trailer properly.

My truck (2004 3/4 ton Ram) just had the ABS light and the brake light come on. Sounds bad doesn't it, like your brakes won't work. The brakes felt fine. I took it to Autozone, got the error codes and it was a rear wheel speed sensor. 30 bucks and fairly easy to replace. I can understand the ABS light coming on but why the brake light? Almost seemed like a scare tactic by my truck.

I read some forums about my problems with ABS light coming on on '04 grand prix. There were several different ideas but I do remember the wheel sensor being mentioned more than anything else. How do ya test them to know which wheel?
