Only real gold I ever purchased was in my class ring back in 1969 and for my ex-wife's engagement ring. Still have the class ring, and it's worth a fair amount over what it cost be originally, but the engagement ring turned out to be the worst investment I ever made, considering what it cost me in the long run...:laughing:

I used to know a couple of guys in the computer salvage business. They didn't really talk about it but I had the idea that they were salvaging certain parts and recovering the gold. I think they were burying it in their backyards along with their supplies and arms. The gold turned out to be a heck of a good investment even though civilization hasn't collapsed yet

Most financial folks now agree that you should have enough cash in your bank to cover 6 months worth of living expenses should you experience a personal financial catastrophe, like job loss, death of a bread winning spouse, etc....

None of them advocate keeping large sums of cash at home as it is too easy to lose to theft, fire, etc...

My debit and credit cards insure my survival for decades to come. So long as there be electricity to swipe away.
