Watcha eating?

How true, as I much on a brownie. You would love these - blackbeans, whole oat flour, dates, and cocoa. No (eggs) cholesterol, no sugar, no oil, but still a moist chocolate delight.

I presume you made these youself? Difficult to do? What about the fat in the cocoa?
Yes, i too admire your determination.

No added oil. You are right there is fat in cocoa but without adding any extra it is not prohibited just one of those no more than two a day things.
The recipe made 16 brownies so divide the amount of fat shown for a cup of cocoa by 1/2 and then by 16.
Nutrition Facts and Analysis for Cocoa, dry powder, unsweetened

They are easy to do. The hardest part is boiling the 12 oz pitted dates (just cover with water) for 10 minutes and then blend them to a paste. The date paste and 2 tablespoons of flaxseed take the place of the eggs, milk, oil, and sugar. the 3/4 cup whole oatmeal blended to a powder take the place of white flour and the 1/2 cup of cocoa powder makes it into the brownie. other ingredients - 1 tbsp vanilla. 15oz can of black beans (I thew the black beans in the blender with the dates), 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder Bake 35 minutes at 350˚

not needed (for me) but optional - 1 cup non dairy chocolate chips and 1/2 cup chopped walnuts on top after you take it out of the oven.

Fat isn't bad for you, in fact is a requirement. Excessive saturated fat is the real enemy.

I am trying to keep an open mind about your very low fat diet but I'm afraid this brownie recipe has just slammed the door for me. As someone raised on the Fanny Farmer brownie (chocolate, butter, sugar, vanilla and a wee bit of flour and baking powder) I find it blasphemous to see a recipe with black beans (eeh gads, they belong in chili not dessert!), no butter (everything's bettah with buttah), and no sugar (horrors!!!). I will grant that the dates might make an interesting addition rather than a weak substitute for sugar.

And, I will continue to keep my fingers crossed that the well balanced and tasty "Mediterranean" diet does almost as well as the ultra low fat diet in large clinical trials. If it doesn't, I may lose a few days off my life but those days will have been well compensated by decades of enjoyment of REAL brownies.

Exactly and all vegetables, grains, greens and fruits have fat. They have all the fat necessary to absorb all the vitamins and minerals that they have.

Toppop52 since you get the fat in everything you eat how much is excessive? The foods with excessive saturated fats like nuts, coconut, avocados along with animal products should be avoided if you have heart disease and restricted if you do not. I'm glad we agree.

That was not an Ultra low fat diet. It was not even low fat, which is less than 10% fat. It was a diet with almost as much fat in the Mediterranean diet please please read the study like I did and we can discuss it here. I reviewed the study a few pages back so you can already see my side of the debate you cannot win.

I'll put these brownies up to a blind taste test any day. You may not need to slam that door shut and cross fingers on your health.

Oh we agree! - black beans ALSO taste good in chill.

Here it is ...a recipe for all to cook up for tonight or tomorrows breakfast...
______________
SOS (MILITARY STYLE CREAMED BEEF)
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 tsp. Crisco or oil
salt and black pepper, to taste
3 tablespoons flour
2-1/2 cups milk (more if you like it thinner)
6 slices buttered toast or biscuits

Add the teaspoon of oil or Crisco to hot, deep skillet along with the ground beef. As beef begins to lose raw look, add the chopped onion, salt and pepper.

Reduce heat and simmer, stirring often, until meat is completely cooked. Sprinkle flour over top and stir into meat and onion mixture until totally absorbed.

Slowly add milk, stirring constantly, until thickened. Taste and adjust salt and pepper.

Serve over 2 slices of toast or biscuits; fried egg is a great accompaniment!

As you were....Enjoy !:)

I really miss SOS so I will have to make a bypass (substitute). The only things I have to substitute are the beef, oil, milk and butter. HMMMM.:scratchchin:
