Bought a used piece of equipment from a rental place, it has their company decals on it and I'd like to remove them. They're pretty thick, I haven't tried any solvents yet. Any ideas on ways to get these things off? I tried picking at it with a razor blade, pretty tough going to get each little piece off. I don't want to make a big mess out of the paint job.

Try a hair dryer or heat gun to soften the adhesive.

Try a heat gun, or a hair dryer if you don't have one. Heat it up then try to peel it off.

Often a heat gun (or hair dryer in a pinch) works very well. Just add heat near the edge and get it started. Then keep moving the heat forward and heating it as you go and most will peal off pretty easily. If you have residue, WD40, Goo Be Gone, or similar products work well. Be careful with using carb cleaner or strong solvents as they can soften the paint and cause you problems.

Sorry Buzzard - we must have been typing at the same time and you beat me to the punch.... What he said!

A pressure washer will remove decals. Unintentionally, even.

But I second the suggestion of a heat gun.

On my new tractor I used wife's blow dryer to get the many 'safety' stickers off. Worked well. Philip.

Even the GoofOff stuff can be troublesome. I used a bit on my backhoe and the rag turned Kubota orange. It was certainly removing more than just the goo.

Heat and a STIFF plastic putty knife such as Shop Warner 2" Plastic Putty Knife at Lowes.com has worked well for me removing decals from a 15 passenger hotel van...
I followed that up with carb cleaner, the same putty knife and a cloth to remove the sticky stuff that is left.
