Do you suppose it has anything to do with me helping my wife by digging a hole for here tree with the backhoe yesterday. Here I was thinking it was perfectly reasonable.

I see nothing wrong with that scenario. I do it all the time, shovel has rust on it since I got my backhoe. My only fear when using the hoe in the yard is hitting one of my sprinkler lines (BTDT)

Um , I also use my backhoe to plant trees. I draw the line at my wifes flower bulbs, only because SHE thinks a 18" wide bucket is a little much for a flower bulb. shhheeeshh

Am I the only one who notices stuff like the tires are on backwards in the second panel?

I've seen this a couple of times in real life; the first time when I queried the owner he said (I swear I'm not making this up) He didn't want to spend the time dismounting the tires on his little JD 650 and switching them to the right rims.
He is a chemical engineer.

The second owner said that he used to work at a pig farm... having the front tires on backward made it easier to back out with a bucket full of s-

Chuckle I have 9", 12" and 16" buckets for my dirt master. Dug the tree in with the 16.

This afternoon I dug out a directv dish post for the new guy who moved in next door. Me thinks there is a pattern developing;
