2014 Chevy/GMC specs

To some here, no matter what GM does it's dismissed out of hand but everything Ford does is perfect and to be worshipped...That's pretty much why I really don't pay much attention to this thread anymore...It's a relentless anti-GM diatribe on every subject. It has grown beyond tiresome.

Do I hate GM? YES. But for the bailout, what they did to my wallet, and the company I work for. NOT THE PRODUCT. Although I feal they are on the low end when it comes to trucks. My opinion.



The problem here is this engine only puts them on par with the competition from 2011 or so. They are taking the conservative approach as usual and playing catchup when they had a chance to be innovate and a leader.

Try the Eco, Hemi 8 speed, Tundra 5.7, ect.

At this point all we have to compare are EPA specs. Show us where any of those touch the 5.3 in fuel economy.

This is only the middle engine. Not to be compared to the top engine offerings. Compare it to the 4.7 Ram, 5.0 Ford, 4.7 Toyota and so on. It stomps most of them and beats them all.

They are now ahead in fuel economy. When the 6.2 comes out later it will have even greater power ratings than this. Someone over at Pickuptrucks.com posted dyno graphs that showed the new 5.3 making more torque at 2k than Ford's 6.2.

I'm curious to see how the new disc brakes made by Duralast (I think that's the name) are going to be. The disc brakes I had on my 2004 were terrible. Good bit better on my 2011 though with the NHT package. I'd also like to know how the 5.3 is rated to tow 11,500 when my 2011 with the 6.2 and NHT package was only rated to tow 10,600. Maybe the disc brakes for 2014 are much larger? Is the frame all new for 2014?

I got 90,000 miles out of my rotors on my 2004 Z71 before I had to turn them and replace the brake pads. I would be pissed off if my rotors didn't last past 40,000 miles. The only excuse I could see for that is if I were towing at maximum load for 40,000 miles. Shoot, the drum brakes on my '95 Toyota lasted 139,000 miles and when I sold the truck they were still good to go!

Now that's a graph I WOULD like to see-have to agree, at this point in time- have to go with epa or dyno graphs (certified by unbiased oversight) of course:thumbsup: and it does appear at least for now GM has a slight upper hand in the mileage...

Thanks that shows the flatness of the curve, and I put a lot more stock, in average torque than peak #s

I'm not trying to bash GM but I just don't think they have the resources to invest in all new engines for their trucks. That has to take a massive amount of money. I also think it's why the Tundra and Titan are behind when it comes to fuel mileage. In Toyota's and Nissan's case it's more because of the number of sales are not that high to justify that big of an investment. For Ford they are all in. The F series is their bread and butter. They have to be at the front.

I agree. Toyota's bread and butter is the Tacoma which continuously outsells the Tundra. It's gaining on the Sierra in fact!

These are all new engines. They share nothing with their predecessors other than displacement.
