When to put up hummingbird feeders?

How much do you cook up at a time ?

Wife cooks up 2 quarts at a time. It's my job to keep to keep 'em full.

I just do a gallon at a time. I have lots of plants they enjoy too, so no need for them to be "dependent" on me! I cook for my dogs, and do a batch of food every 4-5 days for them, and just make the hummer juice at the same time. While I LOVE to cook, I prefer to be outdoors when temps allow, not to mention, I have a paying job. So, I make enough to keep the birds close, but I don't think I could keep the feeders full daily, at the rate they eat!

I did see a Rufous hummer at the feeder past 2 days.

That's the only migratory hummer I'll see.

Around here, when the hummers get active, it is nothing to go through a gallon every 24-48 hours! Have to have multiple (3-4) feeders, as they are not good at sharing.

That is ALLOT of juice!!!! My hummers must have went to AA because they dont drink near that!

I have more than one feeder, and usually a dozen or more hummers around them. They are not kind to each other, when they are around the feeders, but I am not putting up more. They will all have to learn to take their turns or get along!

We have one feeder next to a bush they seem to really like, has to be refilled daily. A few days ago we had 4 on the feeder at one time and about another 6-7 trying to get on. This feeder is near the dining room window so it's easy and fun to watch.

We have out 3 feeders and usually have 3 pairs that use them, the males seem to spend all their time chasing each other, I hear them cussing more than I hear my neighbors (sometimes):laughing: If I had 10 at each feeder using a gallon a week, some of them would have to "get a job"

We do enjoy our hummingbirds! Where we live in Ohio it's early to mid-May before they come to our feeders.

Yeah, I've been a bit late on the feeder cleaning/filling. Meant to do it 2-3 weeks ago...and didn't.

Mon/Tues it will be done....hopefully. :laughing:

As an aside, our morning glory/sunflower seeds that we "planted" last week in the 72-pak thingamajig, are 2-3 inches tall as of today....Spring has sprung!
