In my small community we real ranches and real working cowboys. When I first moved here I was surprised to see people in for lunch wearing their spurs at the local DQ.
Just two houses down on my street a rancher got kicked in the head by his horse. Ended up with the mentality of a mean toddler. Very hard on his wife. He is far from the only one to have been hurt by a horse.
From what I have seen there is no such thing as a 'safe' horse. Meaning any horse can have a bad day. It is a risk you take when you choose to ride. That is not saying people should stop riding. It is just something we should be aware of.
