Watcha eating?

Had farm fresh scrambled eggs with chives growing just off the porch and cut a few minutes before being tossed into the eggs. Toast from home made whole wheat grain and rye bread along with a pot of coffee. :licking::licking::licking:

Danged coffee pot is dying and the reviews on new coffee makers are not so good. I swear I am just going to buy a big funnel to hold the coffee basket and grounds then pour hot water to make my own coffee. We have a Cuisinart drip coffee maker that has to be at least 10 years old but the on button ain't turning on.

Later,
Dan

I recommend a Bunn; they're a hundred bucks or so, but they make a pot of coffee in about 3 or 4 minutes and they will last 4 or 5 years.

Our current coffee maker was expensive, about $150ish but it is at least 10 years old. I bought this machine because it had a SS pot not glass. The machine I had previously had a glass pot which I broke and figured a SS pot would last a life time while I would break another glass pot. I noticed when shopping that the SS replacement pots, why would you need one?, were around $40-50. Ironically, I just spent some time cleaning the old machine to make it shinny and then the On button decided to have issues. I was using my parents ancient percolator over XMAS and that thing still works and I would hate to think how old it is... At least 40-50 years old. Worked just fine and the coffee tasted good to me though I am sure it was not brewed at the just right temperature for X number of minutes.:laughing::laughing:

I was looking at one of the Bunn models.... Hmmmm... That does not sound quite right somehow... Must just be me...

Any who, Cooks Illustrated just had a review of coffee makers. The one they like the best was $300. There there was one a bit cheaper and the Bunn. Reading the comments on Amazon was shocking because there were so many bad reviews for all of the coffee makers I read about. The recommended Bunn model, hmmmm, has a large number of reported failures and the magazine even admitted there were problems though they did not have any. The reviews of the Bunn models reported excellent customer service, hmmmm, again that sound wrong on a few levels... Anyway, who wants to have multiple failures with their Bunn? :confused3: How hard is it to heat water and pour it over coffee grounds? We can send men to the moon but it takes $300 to get a good cup of coffee? The $300 machine was hand built in Denmark and the reported problems seem to be user issues. The rest of the models were made in China... Hmmmmm.....

I ordered a six inch funnel and a 32 ounce Pyrex measuring cup on Amazon to arrive Friday. Not quite $20, I had about $15 worth of credits, so it cost me $5.:laughing::laughing::laughing: I need both of these items anyway and if I can't fix the current coffee maker I will figure out how many seconds it takes to heat the amount of water I need in the microwave to 200 degrees, put the coffee grounds basket in the funnel, with the funnel in the coffee pot and I will POUR the danged hot water.

Good gracious. $300 for a coffee maker that works....

Even the danged hot water kettles were expensive and had problems....

Later,
Dan

LDL at 100, She said total at 185, but was only concerned with LDL. The rest would take care of itself. LDL was at 128 when I had to have a stent installed. It seems that 90% blockage was a hair too much. Can't blame it on red meat because I haven't eaten beef, aside from a little 90/10 ground round mixed with lean ground pork in close to 20 years. Just lost my taste for beef.Trust me, it's not easy to eat by the book when surrounded by cajuns that think any reason is a good reason to cook up a bg pot of something that smells devine and tastes even better. But with a few clever changes in ingrediants and even the tastes good is good for you. Aside from the cheap as dirt generic colesterol pills, ( the high dollar ones plastered on every tv channel **** near killed me ) the best thing I've found to keep it in check is beans. I like just about any varity of dry beans in pretty much any way you con cook them. Oh yea, I did smoke a pack and a half a day till I did 3 days in ICU.

No matter what time of day or night, when you walk into true cajun home the first question will be, what do you take in your coffee? It can be 98 swinging degrees outside and they will offer you a cup of coffee. The wife has a collection of old drip coffee pots that have been handed down from past generations. They come in handy during hurrican season when the fancy electric machine is just useless. Fresh ground beans and as close to boiling as you can determine, pour it in the top and pour a perfect cup out of a 100 year old pot that might have cost $2. when new.

Dripolaters make the best coffee, whether they be a $5 aluminum unit from Montomery Ward or my fancy . No other method keeps the coffee a pur tasting.

My favorite coffee pot for now is a Cuisinart SS, glass carafe timer unit with one of the cone style filters. It has a charcoal filter in the unit, but it tasted way better with my well water at home vs. city water at my bud's house.

I grind my own custom blends, typically 85-90% french roast and the rest vanilla. I grind it just a tad coarser than espresso.

As for food, lately I've really only been eating twice a day and my most common meal this week has been 3 farm fresh eggs from my place, some chopped andoille or other rope sausage, and a sprinkling of sharp cheddar. Last night I had Grandma Utz BBQ potato chips on the side and a cold beer.

It is pretty darned good bachelor food.

Be well,
David

NO! you are not getting away with saying that. That is awful food full of fat, cholesterol and carnitine. It is heart attack food and since your mother and your wife are not there to tell you, I am. EAT MORE VEGGIES!!!! You need the nutrition to help you through this.
