Well, I shouldn't answer in respect to forum rules, but I will give it one shot in a way I hope is respectful of all. Feel free to respond, but I won't say anymore about it.

Why? Because I fear the consequences of rampant religious extremism.

From my perspective as primarily a humanist (Humanism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), and the perspective of our Constitution, power concentrated in the hands of a religious sect is a dangerous thing.

This step on "Jesus" case is an example. People are apologizing and in fear of losing their job because members of a religious sect were offended by the way an icon of their beliefs was used. In fact, by our laws and Constitution, no special status or rights are granted to any religion other than the right to practice it freely. Imposing or forcing your beliefs on others is not freely practicing your religion.

How much farther would this need to progress to become equivalent to the actions of the Taliban, or of Hindus burning the homes of Muslims? I don't think we are that far away from such extremism.

A significant component of Christian adherents in the US have never accepted or honored the difference between constitutional religious freedoms, and "Onward Christian Soldiers" and their religious duty to promote their faith. This is what I refer to as the Christian Mafia.

Well stated... direct, to-the-point and not easily misunderstood. Civil and respectful discourse.

Really??? Wow.

The Christian community wants an apology. Where's the extremism in that?

I'm surprised by your rationale, intolerance, over generalization, and misrepresentation.

A professor is in a position of power and authority. It seems unwise, unkind, and inappropriate to bring the heart of many people's deeply held faith, into the classroom to be disregarded and treated with disgust, for the purpose of illustration.

Your post, above, is a good example of an extremist negative view of an entire category of people, simply because of their faith. You reveal disgust, contempt, intolerance, and a lack of reason, with such a slanted view.

If I understand the classroom event, it wasn't the students pushing their religion. It was the professor pushing an anti Christ agenda on the class. A student chose not to participate, based upon his faith. The student was simply exercising his right to believe what he believes, and not do something against his faith.

Am I missing something?

What is a "significant number"? And where is source or these statistics? Or, (a); is it simply one opinion based on biased belief? Hint, the answer is (a).

Go and learn yourself - first hand. It's all too easy to sit back and throw rocks (or brickbats) at something -- especially if you don't know much about what you're criticizing.
Why do you automatically presuppose we don't know what we're talking about? How do we know you do? My opinion is as good as yours based on apparent proof, wouldn't you agree?
First, my kids are 33 and 37. Next, one of us went to virtually every PTA meeting, ball game band concert, conference, classroom observation day and lunch with the student that our kids were involved in. We were instrumental in getting county rules change to allow academic Lettermen/women, to wear the same jacket as sports letter winners did, even though both our son and daughter were good athletes and each played several sports. We stood behind a teacher we didn't care for when the school said she couldn't recognize Orangemen on St Patrick's Day. We were officers in sports boosters and band boosters, we sold tickets, towed trailers, I coached softball free of charge because it took too long to get certified and the girls would have forfeited the season, and because I loved it.
When I pass my opinion on teachers/schools, it comes from much first hand knowledge gained by hard work and diligence.
So in the future when someone decides to condescend, at least try to appear knowledgeable.

I'm afraid that I've "misplaced" your opinion... or failed to read your perspective on school performance. What exactly is it?

Far be it that my comments should be construed as "condescending"! Simply an observation from my perspective that when people begin making generalizations - oftentimes - wild exaggerations they have ventured far afield from something they really understand.

And Sir; my opinion counts just as much as yours does! One person - one vote. As it were.

The only time I addressed you was with the opening question, and yes, as stated by me opinions are just that, and yours carries the weight of any other.
Unless you're name is someone, then like your statement, mine was a blanket meant to cover anyone guilty.

My opinion on the public schools in Maryland, they are adopting Common Core. That pretty much eliminates local agenda, regional differences, individuality and socialize the student body. Is that clear?

I'm starting to see the advantage of starting kids to school at age 4. Maybe he was talking about children growig up in crack houses. I just am not .aware of the living conditions of four years old in Chicago.

The four year old growing up on a farm riding around with day with dad obviously it would be a healthy environment more likely.

In the correct unsupervised environment children will learn many things on their own naturally because their one objective is to become like adults.

I just saw another Promo that was given by the same Lady. In MHO, I tend to regard MSNBC, as a front to further Socialist's views. Perhaps the name should be changed to "Maoist Socialist Nutball Broadcast Company?:D

I did not comment directly to the issue of Common Core. I don't have any knowledge of that particular educational program - hence, I did not speak to it.
