Which handgun for Home defense?

I am not sure a lot of guys would want to talk about something like that over this media

Agreed; maybe with close friends and then maybe not even then.

I recognize the objection to firing a weapon without hearing protection however, someone who has not fired a weapon in an excited state would (in my opinion) be totally disoriented after firing the first shot in a darkened house without hearing protection. Aside from being blinded by the flash, there would be as you folks have mentioned a major hearing impairment. If you reread my post you might see the words "a few rounds" I don't advocate routine shooting without hearing protection but do believe that you should be prepared for a real world situation where you are betting your life on your ability to properly perform. That means training as realistic as possible in the environment you might face.

Dick, you're certainly entitled to your opinion, just as we're entitled to disagree. It's kind of hard to change your mind, after the damage is done to your hearing.

As Bird stated, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I would not recommend shooting any more than necessary without hearing protection and of course quite a few of us have done this while hunting and as noted, we are suffering the consequences.

I am no expert on firearms, combat shooting or anything, but I can tell you that I have never been bothered by the flash or noise of firing a weapon while in an excited state, when in an OH HECK situation or even hunting I don't think most people even notice it, I don't.

No intent to disparage your opinion or experience, just relating mine.

Same here, When you are a little adrenalined up, you are not going to notice the noise or recoil of a firearm at all. Last fall I shot a deer with a 12 gauge slug, and due to the angle I was at relative to the deer, I did not mount the shotgun properly to my shoulder, and slugs are notorious kickers anyway. But I sure did not notice getting slammed on the muscle in my arm that day.. but the bruise told the tale later:eek: I did have the presence of mind to have available around my neck a set of plugs, and managed to put them in before pulling the trigger to try to save what little hearing I have left. As a youngster, I definitely fired too many guns without hearing protection. When I took up competitive shooting over 20 years ago, by that time the effects of firing guns without hearing protection were well known, and the rules of the game stated you will wear eye and ear protection at all times on the range.

Going back to the OP question: per S&W 5 years/5000 rounds on mag spring replacement. Yes oil will gum up on the rails when old, that is why maintenance was invented (only your life depends on it). As for the Judge my recommendation would be PDX rounds. The best to you on your decision to make.

I had a VW bug in 1963 - it was 1958 Bug...I drove it to college...then I had a VW squareback after I was married and we had our first child...1969 ..bought it new....then in about 1976 I bought a 1974 VW Kharman Gia - it was yellow with a black leather top...I loved that car...had it as a weekend toy and it was fun...If I bought another VW ...I would try to find another Kharman Gia...or the VW...The Thing....It looked like a German WWII vehicle...hard to find either of those now...

I was about to say WHAT?? I know we go on a tangent many times but i failed to see the connection here or a previous post where this post would even have made sense!! I guess you to have a bunch of window open at once and replied in the wrong one. I was thinking man is he ever taking us off the tracks!

But as for the rounds i to agree you wont even notice the noise if your shooting at a guy in your house in the night!!! You will be so hopped up then you wont notice. Same as the hunting example, i dont wear hearing protection (i know i should make an effort) when in the woods when hunting, never notice the recoil from my 30 06 and half the time barely notice the noise. I want to be able to hear additional deer so that i dont spook the one i want by moving and another sees me that i did not hear or another coming that may be bigger than the one i was going to shooot or just to hear how he sounds crashing through the woods or which direction he went, and yes i can hear all that after a shot. Best thing would be like walker game ears but i really dont have the cash to spend onthose right now. pay now or later i guess?
