Good Afternoon Jim,
Ohhh gosh you should never have let that info out of the bag, now all the rest of us are going to jump on the bandwagon and that will be the end of it ! ;):)

That REIT fund is up over 8% already through the first quarter of 2013. What kind of guy would I be to keep that info from my TBN buddies?;) Besides, people buying a fund is what drives the price and gains up. Selling it is what drives the price down. I wish all TBNers would buy a few thousand dollars worth of that stock. If they did, I could retire. . . oops, I already am retired.:D

I made a ton of money off a REIT fund in my Fidelity 401(k), but it was a reckless gamble in hindsight. I sold it in 2007 before the huge crash. My best advice is to diversify widely across US stocks and international stocks plus fixed income investments (bonds in normal times).

Sector funds (like REITs) increase the opportunity of bigger gains at the expense of increased risk of bigger losses. Don't gamble what you can't afford to lose.

Exactly! Spread your eggs around to lots of baskets, but protect your nest-egg.:)

I've been doing a heap of research on social security, when to take, etc., and came to realize that for every year you CAN (can, mind you) wait beyond 62, you're getting about 8% per year more. Now, 8% is mighty hard to beat these days! I'm sure y'all already know this, and it might have been already posted in this long thread, but it recently sunk into me old thick haid! I'm 64 going on 65 (I like to say it that way!), and since my work is mostly controlled by me, I've decided to wait until 66 to begin taking. Plus, if I kick off first, waiting will help my wife a bit. If I kick off before getting a dime of it, eh, what will I care!

Hey, I just noticed that the "Whatcha eatin'" thread has way more posts than this retirement thread! Yes, boys, we have our priorities right!! Let's eat!
