I have a couple of sections of my property I have trouble getting access too because theyare surrounded by low areas. There is a weed or tree not sure what it is that grows very quickly and is a real aggravation to bush hog when I get access. It will grow to be 8 - 10 foot tall in a year
and a little bigger than 1 inch in diameter. It is basically a rod that grows straight up with a few leaves at the top.

It does respond to roundup pretty well so I am trying that approach as I gain access. Unless I use roundup they seem to multiply and the stands get thicker and thicker. I attached a couple of pictures of some that are only a couple of months old . I am just curious as to what these things are called.
Thanks for the help plant1.jpgplant2.jpg

Kind of looks like ailanthus. Leaves look similar to walnut, but has a really bad odor if you crush the leaves with your fingers

Hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like it could be Sumac.

Agree it's hard to see, but could be staghorn sumac.

I know the pictures are not very good but I am pretty sure you nailed it. I pulled up some images of a staghorn sumac in the fall and it pretty much matches what I see in the Fall
Thanks for the help

I'm not sure what you have but I have a similar problem here in North East. I have what they call Japanese Knotweed. This is a evasive plant that grows rapidly.some of these evasive plants regenerate from the roots structure (rhizomes) not sure of the spelling. I had to dig the area out and cover the area with a heavy Geotextile to stop it. I didn't want to use heavy chemicals and contaminate water table. Round up isn't so bad you can buy the strong solution on line that might work better for you.

That knotweed is tough stuff. I have a small patch that I drove over it and skidded bigs rocks through it until the ground was just bare dust last summer. It just happened to be where I needed to go and I thought that would do it in. It's poking up new sprouts this spring.

Deer will eat staghorn sumac but not kill it. Here they browse the top 2" or so off the year-old stems, but only in the winter and spring seasons when it's just a wood stem with tight buds. The mature staghorn seeds are food for some birds, they help it spread.

It could also be some of the Poison Sumac see the fun 3 here

Mark
I appreciate the pictures , I am so bad identifying plants. I will store that away for reference.
I am sure there is a little poison sumac in the field ( I am pretty allergic to poison sumac)

So I do wrap up pretty good and try to be careful. The majority does appears to be sawtooth sumac because of the shape of the leaves and color of the fruit during the fall. ( so maybe I caught a break
with that)

Thanks again
