Well, it is up to you about float, but you said the spring that does the spool spring centering is what is broke.

You could kill float, but that would not help the spring centering.

The spool is already a lift spool whether you have the float or not.

Is your safety and possibly anyone that gets around your loader safety worth the price of a new valve??

The spring is intact. It was a wire retainer clip that was broken that held the float valve onto the spring. This freed up the spring that John Deere stated should not be removed. It removed itself but the spring itself is in good shape. It seems if I move the collar up like it is on the lift valve, supply the spacer and affix the spring at the top with an e-clip, I'm thinking this would work no? It would operate like two lift valves instead of one of them being able to float.

I'm not sure I'm understanding this Jim. I expect the loader to operate just like it did only w/o float.

The safety issue I was referring to was loader boom rising on it own accord. If valve functions correctly without "float function" after your repair then I suppose there's no safety issue. In all my years of operating a FEL I like you have found very few times the float was required.

You must never do any leveling or back dragging.

We had similar problems with our 950 well over twenty years ago. After several attempts to repair it by ourselves and Deere, I finally wholesale replaced it with a Northern Tools old school lever valve assembly that I attached to a bracket I welded to the lower boom attachment.

Still works well

No only use loader to pick up objects and load/unload rd bales of hay. I understand about back dragging but I'm not into soil leveling.

I never use float when back dragging I can do a better job with the tractor weight and where I put the bucket.
