Loader John Deere Selective Control Valve

So the story is finished and the loader works fine. Total cost: $4.39. If it were not for the smart parts guy, I would have been out $700. The float spool on the 750 has a non serviceable spring at the end and thus no part is available. My wire snap ring retaining the spring broke allowing the spool not to center and thus the bucket kept going up by itself. The parts guy poured through his computer images and found a similar wire snap ring holding the spool centering spring on the loader of a JD 318 garden tractor. He ordered it, had it the next day, put it on and eureka, the loader works better than ever. If the parts guy had been the lazy type, he would have just said: "sorry, JD no longer supports this valve" and I'd be out the $700. Do not know about other parts for other JD tractors but if you think no part is available, let the parts guy be your friend.

Good to hear you got the valve fixed. A good parts man is worth alot.

IIRC back when I worked behind a JD parts counter there was a book called the Redbook that parts could be looked up giving parts specifications and cross-reference numbers

I bought him more than that. He could buy dinner for two at a fine restaurant and was elated to do so. I had to wrestle him to the ground before he accepted. Nice guy.

Sounds as if a new complete spool valve is needed

Can't get just the spool valve Jim. First the scv is no longer made and secondly, the spool valve is matched to the casing and that is why it was costing $700. Cannot get just the spool valve as they are lapped to the casing.

You overlooked the word "complete" in my statement. As far back as I can remember individual spools weren't available as repair parts. All you can do is get a "complete open center valve" from some place such as Surplus Center that will fit the application.

I see, you are using "spool valve" as the complete selective control valve. I already fixed it Jim. Didn't have to buy a thing except for a few o and wire snap rings

I'm glad you got it repaired. Sorry for the confusion but I was just replying to your statement that was directed at me.
