Broken HST/ No Reverse= HUGE $ to Fix!

The L48 again has reverse !! The bottom of the regulator sticks down and gets rubbed by grass and weeds, sticks etc. - notice the gray paint is worn thru to the white primer.

Great job! Will you be installing any kind of "guard" so the bottom of the regulator doesn't get buggered up again? Stanley

I'm guessing you got a sweet deal on the tractor and fixed it for next to nothing. I wonder if the OP had taken this to a dealer what would have happened? New HST probably for what was nothing more than an adjustment. I hate to say this, and I'm not picking on Kubota dealers or techs, but I have often found if I work on something, I end up knowing more than the techs that get paid to work on this stuff. I think its safe to say that is the case with rbargreron.

rbargeron;

Are you accustomed to working on this stuff or have background that would give you a good working knowledge?

The HST is similar to the auto tranny in a car/truck...voodoo for most of us!

.......Will you be installing any kind of "guard"?........

The bottom of the L48 has a massive frame rail 3" away (pic on page 3) - this looks like it was a freak accident - something hard stuck up beside the frame rail and managed to hit the regulator. On L-series CUTs without the frame, the HST it is even more exposed - but the incidence of problems is very low. I was told Kubota sold only two of these regulators in the NE division last year.

Good job! It makes me cringe reading the OP and how much the dealer was going to (probably unknowingly) rake the owner over the coals for a replaced HST.

Fantastic! Thought that since you had excellent forward but no reverse it had to be something in the control and you sounded like the kind of person who would figure it out. It sure is a great feeling to accomplish that especially after the dealer said "new hydro needed".

You might be able to get a good job at the dealers!

Glad it was that simple. Sad that the original owner got stuck with a dealer that wasn't interested in finding the problem before giving an over the top estimate.
