Do any of you guys feel qualms about using discount coupons at sit-down restaurants when you take your spouse or SO out for a meal? Before the local chain Bill Knapps closed it's doors in the Lansing, Michigan area I would take my then-spouse there for dinner and use the discount coupons every time. There are always $5 or $10 off coupons available for other places, but do you refrain from using coupons as you don't want to look cheap? My favorite discount dining story is the time another guy and I took our spouses to a restaurant, and the manager refused to honor both buy-one-meal-get-one'free (both of us guys had the same coupon) because we were seated at the same table... and he claimed the coupons read "one per party" so we had to sit at separate tables... does anybody see the wisdom of such logic... we were basically the only customers there...

I think most men wont use coupons period, myself included. However most mens wives have no problem using em, so i just tell the wife she has to use it if its gonna get used. Shes happy as a lark to present the coupons!

Just for that, I am going to send you a huge stack of "Hooters" coupons in a plain brown envelope marked "Personal" and better hope your wife doesn't see it first....

BTW, I went to the local Meijers today and saved about $15 using coupons...I am not a bit shy about it.

My Mrs.. is the same way...one time we were in Office Depot buying a printer and I asked the sales clerk if he would take xxx amount...I don't remember how much less but it was a good 25% less...he said.." let me check " he came back and said .." We can't take that exactly but we can take say 20% off and give you a coupon for the other 5% ...so ...you will never know if you don't ask....best not to be shy about bargaining...Yes even in Macy's etc.

I have never been shy on using coupons. BTW, if you are serious about sending "brin" coupons from Hooters, just be sure to enclose a perfumed, lipstick smeared napkin with the package. Hopefully his Wife will allow him to, at least, sleep on the couch.:D

Retail stores are one thing (most of that is manufacturer $$$). Restaurants are another and generally only use them if new in a market or are truly hurting. If you like the restaurant, skip the coupons. Otherwise (at least around here) the good ones will get closed or burn to the ground.

A long time ago somebody said the key to making $1 million in the restaurant business is to start with $10 million. It's a losing business in most markets. Now if the place depends on the bar to support the food, do the math on what happens if the new .05 alcohol proposal kicks in.
