I'm purchasing a BX 1800 with 460 hrs on it and I'm wondering what kind of longevity I should expect from the engine.

Thanks

its a diesel. You can expect many more hours. 500 hrs is not that many for a diesel. I already have over 500 on my bx and its still running like new.

Almost 1000 hours on mine...keep up on the maintenance...should be no problem giving you years of service!!

Radioman is right. These are not throw away tractors. As long as the fluids, filters are changed, and reasonable maintenance performed these diesels will run thousands of hours. One of the biggest factors in diesel life has to be not overheating the engine. Keep an eye on temps, stuck thermostats, clogged rad fins etc. good luck w this workhorse as i LOVE my bx!

Even with reasonable maintenance you should expect 6000 hrs., with exceptional care 10,000 hrs. wouldn't be unheard of. On the other hand with no maintenance I've rebuilt Kubota engines with as few as 80 hrs.

They use these engines on reefer units and quite often get 20000hrs from them. Now there is no way you will get that out of yours but several thousand hours is not unreasonable.

What maintenance not done on an 80 hour Kubota tractor motor (diesel) would cause ANY damage? Except possibly a clogged air filter on one run in dust storms. You've got to remember Paranoid people can buy tractors and you scaring them like this will cause them sleepless nights. Oil change and filter at 50 hours and doubt 80 or 90 or more would hurt it is all that is recommended for normal/average use.

I have to agree with JOHN THOMAS.

What normal maintenance 'neglect' would cause a Kubota engine to fail at 80 hours?. I've seen posts where rods were thrown due to improper torque, and/or bad castings...........but those engines were replaced with new ones under warranty, not rebuilt.

The only thing i can think of is running it overheated w the coolant boiled over:(
80 hrs is brand new!
