Hi all,

I may be getting a smaller place in a nice little neighborhood and I am considering selling my BX2200 and getting a smaller grass-mower-only kind of machine. A few questions come to mind. What's the right size Kubota (or is there a better fit/solution/brand) mower for about .7 acres? I have a BX2200 which I guess I could just keep and use, but it's a little large for the property/neighborhood. Also, it has a loader which I hate to store and no longer have any need for. I was thinking I'd sell the BX with the loader, 60" deck and bagger and just get a new grass cutter with the proceeds. Any thoughts on what my setup is worth (roughly). It has 350 hrs on it. Very VERY well maintained. :) Of course, all of us tractor nuts probably OVER maintain our gear. he he

Thanks all!

I use my BX25 to mow .385 acres so I think I'd just keep what you have. You'll miss it if you get anything less. You could always trade for a BX1870 that is a little smaller.

I would also keep it. A good garden tractor is going to cost 6k and not hold up like your BX or be as capable. If your neighborhood allows it I would get a small storage shed for it and keep it in there if you are worried about storage.

The BX1500 is a great mower. If you could find someone WANTING to trade then 2 people could be happy and do a fair trade. Other wise I'd keep it. Or maybe a BX1800 owner will contact you about a trade.

I have 1 acre where I live and 10 where i do my tractoring and they are 6 miles aprart. At our house we have a Gravely ZTR with an 18 HP Kawasaki. We have had it for about 5 years now and it has been a very good mower. For mowing around trees, your shed, bushes, and the house you can't beat a ZTR. I have the commercial model with the heavy deck made from plate (10 guage I think) and not stamped.
I bring the tractor home occassionaly if I am pulling down a tree or pulling up old bushes, but usually only if I am going to change the oil in it or some other maintenance at the same time.
Everyone in my neighborhood has one acre lots and a couple of old guys I know have small tractors, but they rarely use them. One of them has two lots and uses hit to mow, along with a riding mower too. The other one doesn't have a mower on his and I have only seen him use it once. He leveled an area for another neighbor to buid a shed.
My advice would be to sell the tractor outright and buy a nice ZTR that you are comfortable on. Go test drive some, that is always fun.

I have a BX1500 with 330 hours or so and it would make a great residential mower. I have never had a loader on it. This BX was owned by none other than JOHNTHOMAS. I bought it used from Barlow Tractor after JT traded it in. My BX1500 has a 54 " deck.

I have a BX 25 and a Kubota Zero Turn mower and live on one acre. While I mow with the zero turn, I find more uses for the BX. I don't use the back hoe that much but always and frequently find myself on the BX using the FEL. My suggestion is to keep the BX for a while and after you are settled in to the new place then decide if it is more than you need. Where in western PA? I have and do spend time in the Greensburg area.

There are many options for you - personally , I'd keep the BX. You already know the history. Its already paid for I assume and will last much longer then any box store varieties mowers. You could sell the FEL if you wanted to, I am sure there are many BX2200's owners looking for a FEL for their BX. Same with mower deck - there might be a BX owner that prefers a 60 over a 48/54 that would do a trade or barter. Or you could do a trade for a GR model.
Since you are in PA, how do you clear the snow?

Since you are in PA, how do you clear the snow?

Originally I bought the loader for clearing snow in combination with a back blade. But it's just too much for my application so I bought a sears snow blower and it makes short work of my driveway (the portion I need to clear that is). If the loader were gone and the ROPS removed, it would seem less ridiculous in the new application. Perhaps I will pursue selling off the FEL (probably the best choice) or trading off for a zero turn.
