I noticed recently that the fuel filter (I guess that's what it is) has came off the end of the fuel pickup line. So I took the tank off, pulled the lines out. The fuel pickup line is very soft, like it's rotted near the end, I've cut off some but when I try to feed it back into the hole in the tank it keeps shredding. So, question is, where can I get a couple feet of this fuel line? It's black and small, like maybe 5mm diameter. I looked at a couple Ryobi parts sites and they don't sell any of the parts separately, only the whole tank as an assembly.

Would this situation mentioned above cause the unit to start, run for 5-10 seconds, then die?

Auto parts store. O'Reilly Automotive has it here. I am not sure if you have O'Reilly automotive in Ohio, but I am sure you have something similar. Lots of people claim it is the Ethanol in the fuel that rots the hoses. I know I have replaced the ones in my trimmer too.. try not to leave fuel in the trimmer.

Home Depot has kits that include the fuel line, filter and a wire to pull them through the tank holes.

As far as the running goes, try putting the choke on partially to see if it runs better. If so, I think
you'll need to pull the carb apart and clean it.

If auto parts stores don't have fuel line small enough for 2-cycle engines, go to a dealer who sells Echo, Stihl or such.
