Anybody seen or heard of bioluminescent technology

It's a gmo and involves gene insertion but the developers prefer to use the terminology.... "synthetic biology".

Hey its all in the name right ;)

The NY Times recently published this story on the research company that's developing bioluminescent plants and eventually hopes to develop trees that glow in the dark to replace street lighting.

According to a link in the article no USDA approval will be needed as the agricultural department has so far determined that it does not currently fall under its jurisdiction

Supposedly there has been a startup business venture launch to sell seeds to grow a plant that has already been developed to generate money for more investment

Interestingly the company base is in St Louis Mo. the same place as Monsanto

I wonder if I'll see these sold down at the greenhouse anytime soon!

I'd like to learn more. Can you provide some research links so I can do my due diligence on this?

We are not going to feed the world. But for those we do feed, I am going to do my best to make sure it the best food, practices and production I can do. I couldn't live with myself knowing I was producing poison consumed by customers and friends, not to mention my family.

How many of us have lost someone to cancer. How many more will we loose? The background accumulation of pesticides GMO's in our bodies is unprecedented. I don't need the government to tell me something is wrong here. I can see it.

Each of us have to make this decision, and sometimes daily. Its hard sometimes, as often the right thing to do often is. But in the end I want to know I did everything I could possibly do on my part.

Monsanto and GMO's aren't going to bring back my friends and family members.

Thanks for the links you posted on those glow in the dark plants. Pretty amazing stuff. Hopefully they do it to grass also. I would bring a whole new meaning to twilight golf.

I listened to a radio program that said the the ag workers in Argentina are complaining and getting sick from working in roundup fields. The roundup gmo coating on the seed gets into the dirt and into the dust. The dust is inhaled by the workers and makes them sick. One person also said that after 20 years of no till roundup use, the field is dead, nothing will grow.
Also I came across an article that said that the bee colony collapse is due to the dust from fields growing gmo crops. The seeds are coated and get into the dirt and dust.

Just catching up on my weekend reading staying informed on the latest worldwide action concerning GM use and acceptance.

Most recent developments are that the Philippines has stopped experimental field testing of GM eggplant a Bacillus thuringiensis version

To quote the recent court decision "Bt eggplants could not be declared as safe to human health and to our ecology with full scientific certainty, being an alteration of an otherwise natural state of affairs in our ecology.

And the Venezuela gov't is looking to enact a law guaranteeing the security and sovereignty of small to medium farmers against the threat of domination by transgenic seed use. According to the article the goal is to preserve the biological diversity of the nation and its food sovereignty, because the use of transgenic seeds in member countries of the South Common Market (MERCOSUR) such as Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay, is now a reality and transgenic seed market is under the monopoly of a few transnational companies, including Monsanto.

If I invent a wonderful product, I'd be proud of it and advertise that product. I'd want people to know the benefits of it and why it's so great. I'd look to have people ask for it by name.

If I invent crap and just want to make money, I'd do something a little different.

Does anyone disagree?

I was in our local coop the other day and they asked me if I was growing corn again his year (yes) and they told me they can sell bt roundup ready sweet corn now. I heard about it last year already guys had it planted. Its $7 an ounce just about what I pay for the hybrid sh2 variety I use now fwtw. I have corn up about 2' now and wont have time for a second planting but next year I am trying it.

If for no other reason to know what its like to not have weeds and bugs . The reviews of this sweet corn from everybody around here that's tried it or seen it is they cant believe their eyes. Its full clear to the end not a bug anywhere and real sweet just like you expect normal sweet corn and they did nothing to it but a little herbicide and water.

The strange thing to me is some guys have said they seeded this in amongst irrigated field corn and it still comes out as sweet corn??? That is odd it must be open pollinated or they picked the exact right time to plant elifino I will find out more when I get some to try?
