Hi All, noticed hydraulic oil leaking from backhoe. Drove me nuts trying to find it. Really small leak right at the flexing of the first joint where all the lines feed through together wrapped in a nylon sock. Well it looks like it is the line that feeds the piston hidden inside the arm of the backhoe. Just my luck, couldn't be one on any of the other exposed piston/cylinders! So here is the question. Anyone know how to get to it? Looks like I have to take out a couple pins and work it out but it sure looks like I have to raise the rear of the Kubota in order to get the boom down low enough to get the piston and cylinder out and accessible so I can replace hydraulic line. I will have to use the kubota to raise and lower itself and just don't want to over complicate or miss something while I have it apart. If anyone know how this all works I would appreciate hearing from you. I have a repair manual but it does not go into this much detail.

thanks

Walt

Hi All, so I figured out how to take it apart but now I can't figure how to put it back together!!! The boom cylinder keeps trying to rip out the hoses it must pass by to get back to its proper position inside the boom. I tried a couple times but no luck. The head? where the pin goes is able to get between the hoses in the channel of the boom but the cylinder bumps out sharply after this point at it is here that the hoses get caught. I have everything hooked up and I'm using the hydraulic system to move the boom cylinder back and forth. I don't dare push it any harder than I already have it will certainly rip a hose if I continue to use this method. I have tried to rotate the cylinder thinking I can get past it that way but I don't have that much movement available to me. I could really, really use some help on this. Kubota dealer won't be open till Monday and not sure they offer free advice.

thanks

WOW!!! what a pain. So after a few choice words and a whole lot of attempts I was able to get it together. Not sure it is back the way it was but it seems to be OK. I had to put all 4 hoses on one side so I could squeeze the cylinder past them and pin it in place. Worry that this wasn't how I found them but I didn't pay attention to how they looked when I was pulling the cylinder out. Worst case they will rub against each other and wear out more quickly than if I had been able to keep them separated and run them up both sides of the cylinder. So thanks for listening and looking at the post.

Thanks for the post Walt. I am facing the frustration of replacing a bucket hose which runs through the boom alongside the boom cylinder. I'm afraid it will require removal of the cylinder, but not certain of that yet. My plan is to get a new hose with a male end (narrower) instead of the OEM female end and try to feed it through without removing the cylinder. I will then add a female fitting to allow connecting. We shall see...

I hope your hoses are holding up well! Regards.
