Approximately how much hp will it take to pull an 8 foot heavy duty JD off set disk on rocky steep ground?
Can a NH 3930 4WD handle it?

Thanks

More than a 3930 would want. I would recommend you step down to a 6' disk for your tractor. Think you would wan't something you could pull in 4L or 1H.
You could pull it in most cases but not fast enough. Ideal would be a 75 to 85 hp tractor in a light to medium configuration approximately 7500 lbs.

I agree it might be a bit much for your tractor and terrain. With the steep slopes you may not want such an aggressive tillage tool anyway if you consider the soil erosion factor. Maybe a S-tine cultivator could get the job done without disrupting the soil structure so badly. These are fairly easy to pull and you could pull an 8 footer easily.

Exactly right.

Could you post a pic of the disc? Ken Sweet

Your 3930 tested at ~45 hp (pto) and around 38 hp and 4800 lb pull (drawbar)--similar to my Mahindra 5525. I pull a 7 ft offset disc on flat level ground that has gravely loam soil. Don't know if you can get up enough speed on rocky steep ground.

Is that JD disc a wheel disc (mine isn't)? If so, you can always use the transport wheels to set the disc operating depth to compensate for lack of hp.

My neighbor has an 8 ft offset wheel disc that he pulls with his JD 2640 (~80 hp engine, 6500 lb drawbar pull). He uses it to till his 1/2 acre vegetable garden (mucho overkill but you use what you have).

Good luck.
