Thanks for posting your links and info, UG. I am intrigued by the deer fly data on your blog, interesting reading!

Haha, yeah I got the email that this thread had been updated and it ended with "umbrella guy", thought someone was just being cute in reference to umbrella girl. but no, it was just the code for the smiley guy.

Good news from Washtenaw County, MI. Flies have subsided and diminished greatly. Was able to work outside for hours on Saturday with no protection at all. Should probably refrain from stating this so overtly until I head back to the ranch another time, but oh well. Too excited about my aerial freedom not to share the news!

Anyone else seeing them let up already?

Indeed, the deer flies are almost completely gone here in Livingston County, Michigan! I skipped 3 days of trapping and then went out Saturday morning and caught a mere 87. I didn't go trapping this morning, but will go back out tomorrow morning for what will probably be the last deer fly trapping I do this season. Hooray!! Which means I'll be updating my blog later this week with the final and total data for the season. This season has definitely ended a good 3 weeks early (which makes sense, since it started 3 weeks early). Congratulations to all of us for surviving yet another Michigan Deer Fly Season!!

Think I'll try the Umbrellagirl method but using a cap instead of an umbrella. Attach the top of a cup to the hat with 4 twist ties. Use that cup as an anchor then put another cup (inside a plastic bag) on top of the anchor cup. That way it should be easier and less messy to reload without undoing the twist ties? :confused3:

Ever hear of VELCRO?

Ever hear of VELCRO?

Have some Velcro and blue cups, need to order some Tanglefoot. The demons are getting stronger everyday. :bumblebee:
