Problems with Trespassers

You never tell anyone you shot to kill. You shoot to stop the treat, or behavior. When or if they die, from the gun shots, oh well. When the threat stops, you stop shooting. Someone running away is not a threat.

Houstonscott is right. Even if it is a fully justifiable shoot, you tell the cops you shot to kill and you will probably spend some time in a jail. You only use lethal force if you or your loved ones are threatened. You STOP THE THREAT, then you stop shooting.

True story: a wealthy banker and neighbor of my in-laws in rural southern New Jersey was terrorized for a period of time by a group of black youths. They'd drive onto his property and around the house, throw stuff at the home, all the while yelling vile things... Police were summoned multiple times and were of no help.

This went on for weeks. Would happen intermittently at night. Well one night the guy had enough and set out to stop the threat. He fired a single round of birdshot at the car. This time it was the monkeys that called the police. When the cops arrived they arrested banker.

End result for him was civil lawsuit settled out of court a couple of years later.
Payed several hundred thousand dollars to a carload of unemployed uneducated hooligans and their sodomite attorney.

Well they came back again about 6:10 tonight. There was 2 of them. It was the same young guy & his girlfriend & get this they were riding a chopper motorcycle! They came up to the no trespassing signs, stopped for a few seconds then started riding across the field toward my house. They rode out to the middle of the field while revving the engine so that I would be sure to hear them. I was outside in the yard so I walked to the side of the house so that I could see & they kept revving it up & flipping me off. Then they started riding up the field. I just walked out of their sight & called the police. It only took about 15-20 minutes for them to show up but by then they were gone. I did get pictures of them & there were good clear pictures of their faces. I am posting one that doesn't show their faces but it will give you some idea of what I am talking about. The first is a pic from the road of my posts & signs these are about 3 feet on my side of the survey marker. If you look at this picture you can see an old barn & my house is about 50 ft behind the barn. The second is of them riding the chopper on the field. The police did look at the pictures & said to email them to them & they would go to the county attorney on our behalf & see if they could get something done. At least this may be headed in the right direction now since they are willing to get involved.

Take your tractor and plow a deep furrow or two across your field where they ride the motorcycle.

The problem with that, is that if you do that, you are intentional doing something to cause harm in an area that you know these creeps ride. Even though it is posted no trespassing, they would still win the lawsuit that the OP intentionally caused bodily harm after they wrecked they motorcycle in the furrow. That's a lose-lose situation, and it sucks!

Yes, I suppose you are right but who is to say he wasn't about to put in a row of radishes? Just kidding, still it might be satisfying to see a choppers front wheel drop into a hole...

He should use his backhoe. Who says you can't plant radishes at the bottom of a 10' deep trench? :)
