On my 5065E when not using the 3-point hitch but pulling a disk/baler, the right hand side adjustment link vibrates loose. It's done this several times to me and I caught it before it came completely apart. However, my Dad baled hay with it and was not so lucky. The handle is now in a 15 acre field or a hay bale somewhere. I'm trying to understand what I can do different to prevent the vibration from fully extending the screw and coming apart. All my other tractors are antique and have the crank handle, so I'm looking for suggestions to prevent losing some more pieces. Is it possibly a design flaw that would be under warranty? I've (hopefully) linked the JD parts diagram of the pieces I'm referring to (far right diagram).

I have the same problem, I have to check mine all the time. I find even when using a rotary mower for a few hours it will vibrate loose and lower the right arm.

I am taking delivery of my new 5065e tomorrow and will be hooking up for first time my new bush hog 296. You are saying the lower right bar vibrates loose? What is the designed force that would prevent that? Just friction in the threaded connection? I just want to know how to minimize this from happening and I am new to tractors.

I make sure to put it in the lock position but it doesn't seem to stay there for very long, depending on what I am doing.

When I've looked at those and tried to change the adjustment they're usually pretty gummed up with grease that it's a chore to get 'em loose! You're new tractor just needs a bit of dirt and grease on there..

If that's the case, you need something very high tech, like a bungee cord or piece of wire, to keep it pulled down, in the lock position. Frankly I'm suprised that the lock would disengage, seeing that it would need to fall up, but stranger things have happened. The squared off protrusion in the casting should lock into the notch of the part you turn. If it's worn round you could build it up some, by brazing. The high tech method would be easier.

I haven't had the issue when using a 3-point implement. Mine situation only seems to occur from (I assume) vibration when using the drawbar to pull a disc or baler or mowing machine.

Well, I thought it was when it happened to me. I can't speak to what Dad did. Maybe I need to really make sure it is pushed all the way down.

I agree and I'm working on it. Last year, we had the drought so there wasn't much to do. This year I did manage to get some plowing in and got my hay baled.

Duct tape or baling string.....That's the approach I'll be using when I get the replacement handle to keep from losing it again. The tractor only has 100 hours on it, so I don't think the squared off protusion is rounded.

I've got the very same adjustment "handle" on my 5075M, too. It's stuck on top of the rectangle, metal lock and doesn't really move or slide very easily (but, it's kinda dirty, too). I'm wondering if your's is bent or out-of-round and doesn't slide all the way down on top of the metal lock tab.

If it doesn't fit the adjustment shaft just right; it won't stay in place very well, either.
