What is a "global carrier"?

Some tractor use the skid steer quick attach to attach things to the loader arms and others use another method called a global carrier. Each has their own followers and people who like and dislike each. I am a global carrier fan myself.

The global carrier is not a skid steer it is just the ISO std carrier replacing the JD500 design. If you go to the Configurator website under loaders, you can read about it and how it compares. If you already have some JD500 carrier implements you probably would not want to get it. Since this is my 1st tractor I got the global carrier . Even Deere says it is a strong design. You can remove bucket quickly from left side only without having to remove a pin from right side. It is a good compliment to the heavy duty bucket which is compatible for adding a grapple on top later. The JD500 is great. I am just starting out with nothing and followed the Deere website suggestion. There are more experienced guys here that may have a better opinion since I am a newbie . I am impressed with it however. Looks pretty beefy especially with HD bucket . One point Deere makes is that if you forgot to connect one side pin (JD500), there would be no strength loss with global carrier

Sorry Corey9212, I was typing a response to Piston and did not know you had already answered him . You replied while I was typing. I am a newbie and definitely not trying to act like I know much about tractors . My dealer did tell me the HD bucket is grapple compatible . My bucket has a hole about 1 inch diameter on the top corners of bucket? I hope to be able to add grapple there later. That must be the pivot points. One dealer I dealt with acted like getting a global carrier was a pain (said 30-45 days). The dealer I bought from had the carrier and got HD bucket in 4 days

No problem, it happens often :) I'm still new to the 5000 series tractors as well and am learning a lot. It's always good to share your knowledge cause there will always be someone newer than you looking for help as well. Yes it is grapple compatible I have a grapple on my bucket (you can see it on my picture grabbing onto a bale.) it took two weeks for my loader to come in with a global carrier so there must be a demand for them.

I did see M16 and M20s called out in 553 manual for loader frame so I know it's metric but the tractor manual does not specify size of wheel nuts like you said . Man, what a pain if you need both? I have both up through 1/2 inch drive but this tractor is heavier duty than anything I have owned!

I went to Harbor Frieght and bought a 3/4 inch drive set of American and Metric sockets. I believe they were about $60 a set. I haven't used them that much, so they should last a long time.
