Great Growing Weather

I might have to try your garden over the water... the way it's been raining here for the last 6 weeks my garden looks almost like your lake... and that could be the only way I get to plant anything. :D

We always talk about bird's-eye view....well this is the fish-eye view of my garden. Looks different from this angle:

This fish cannot see this, but I had to show this picture of my first okra pod:

I'm jealous of your okra. I had to plant three times this year because of the late freezes and generally cool weather. I'm now on a 1st name basis with my seed supplier.:D I have a great stand now, but its two weeks behind yours. The 3/4" of rain I got this morning will help it get going soon. How much of a problem are you having with bugs in your garden? Have your treated your corn for corn earworms? I think an eye dropper and mineral oil would be your best bet with your stalks and ears so exposed.

I had to replant my okra three time also. I had one row lay in the ground two weeks before it came up. Now I have two 175' rows:eek: Hope it sells at the farmers market. I save my own okra seed so I have a gallon of seed if needed.

My corn is way behind yours. I just planted this weekend. Trying to confuse the crows by planting later. Everything is up in the garden so I am hoping they don't notice the corn. Also planted 14 rows 190' each of pumpkin this weekend and had a good rain early this morning.

I planted okra several times also. The box is about 4 ft wide and I have four ziz-zag rows. Lots are blooming so I am holding off on thinning. I started some in the greenhouse and transplanted.

Love fried okra.
Last year I did not have problems with insects in corn, so will try to make it this year as well. I have a row of about a dozen stalks that my oldest grandson planted in the greenhouse during the spring. I transplanted it to the garden, and it is doing great. He, along with the rest of his family, will be here this weekend, and I hope there is at least one ear ready to eat.

With my home tomatoes I have had the Blossom End Rot problems as well, mainly with plants in big pots, and with heirloom. I agree that it is just a passing issue. Would like to see a picture of your shading process. I agree with you on the hot temps and maters don't get along.

Well, I finally got my 40% shadecloth up today. I'm hoping it allows just enough sun through. Here are the photos.

EDIT: 75' of 6' wide was $0.15 per square ft or 450 x .15 = $67.50

Sounds like you'll have a nice bunch of pumpkins in the fall. I planted a patch last year and had a nice harvest. What variety did you plant?

Jerry,

I ordered my seed from Harris Seed this year. I planted Gladiator, Magic Lantern, Howden, and one row of Cinderella.

I still need to plant the little Munchkin and will this week or next. I noticed some of them already poking through the dirt last night. We are having above average rain this year so we will see how it goes. I did finally buy a hiller so this will help with the pumpkins.

I have not had much luck the last year or two with pumpkin but will give them a little more TLC this year.

I saw the thread last year with your pumpkins, nice job! I have dial up at home and can't post as much as I want and very busy at work so I am limited to what I can post.

I told my wife we will have anywhere from 0 to 2000 pumpkins this year:D

I don't want to hijack this thread so we need to start one on pumpkins:thumbsup:

Toward the end of the season for most produce here in central Alabama, but God has been good to us this year. Okra and peppers are holding strong, but other items have succumbed to the heat and humidity. Got to love the way OKRA loves hot weather. Here is a shot of some harvest I took to a party last Thursday night to give away.

But parts of the garden do not look so well
