big problem

yesterday i started to modify my 600 steering from manual to power, during the removal of stuff i found some real problems , the steering gear is shot, so now im back to square one. any one ever rebuild a manual box? being that i have to fix or replace my box i was thinking that maybe i can buy a power steering box and all that i need to make it work.

If you have the power hydraulics, think about a jog / joy stick.... In the marine industry, steering wheels are mostly a thing of the past in larger boats....

i have a feeling not only will this be very expensive but also way over my head.

Usually the boxes just need to get new bearings, which is fairly simple. If you want to go with power steering I believe they have different steering boxes anyway---you see them on ebay sometimes and are expensive...

Allen....... can you pull a lever to raise the bucket ??? can you push the lever to lower the bucket ??? That is what a jog stick does..... push it to the right and the tractor turns right...... push it to the left and the tractor turns left...... they make self centering sticks that return to center.... cheaper than replacing a steering system that is obsolete........ and a lot easier to hook up...... put it where ever the hoses will reach.....

correct... the steering boxes from manual to power are different. different thrust bearing setup.

as for the rebuild. manual boxes are super ez to rebuild. generally top and bottom thrust bearings, and bushings if needed. seals.. etc. top bushing bearing..e tc.
