I recently purchased a 1710 that replaced a broken in half Ford 1600 with FEL & BH. I am now in planning stages of modifying and installing a sub-frame from the 1600 to beef it up and make it work on the 1710. I have spent about 20 hours browsing the TBN forums and have gotten a lot of information and ideas from TBN member's posts. I am sure that as this project continues that I will have some questions and will receive some good advise. Hopefully I will also be able to offer some information that may be useful for others.

I am a retired 70 year old senior and it now takes me 4 or 5 times as long to accomplish my projects but glad I am still a capable DIY person.

Thanks for the welcome. I have spent today measuring and pricing steel for my subframe modifications. I have price sticker shock as the price of steel has really gone up since I last purchased steel about 20 years ago.

Hi neighbor! I bought a 1710 3 months ago and I'm amazed at how well it runs for being as old as it is. My front loader isn't too strong but it'll do fine for me. Is your tractor the shuttle shift or regular manual (both shifters on the floor)?

My 1710 has both shift levers on the floor.

I am happy to share any info with fellow 1710 owners.
I am not much help on knowledge related to longtime ownership but whatever I do have offer freely.
welcome!

Hi Mike, mine is the regular manual shift. I didn't get to do any work on the tractor today. I spent much of the day cutting grass with my Kubota lawn mower. I didn't feel I could stand any more of the Texas summer afternoon heat. 97F with a fells like temp of 104 with no let up in the forecast so getting the FEL & BH installed may take a while. Hopefully we can get a break in temps before mid September.

Yeah it's been a warm one lately, funny thing is I can handle a "dry" heat but stick some humidity in the air and I'm dying. I know your in a humid area, I'm not too sure I could handle that. I'd die in Houston & Galveston. My old tractor isn't bothered by it though, the old girl just purrs in it.
