FWIW, I was in local Walmart today and they have Federal 45ACP 230 grain FMJ for 29.97/100 and 40S&W 180 grain for 27.97/100. At these prices you cannot buy in bulk and pay shipping and buy any cheaper, at least not any web sites I have checked!

If it is the Winchester silver can. Which is what I think they are talking about, It is some of the most reliable of the rimfire ammo that I have used. I used to use them all the time in steel matches, because they would go bang, just about all of the time.. Very few duds, typically none in a 325 can. I cannot say that about some of the other "bulk" ammo. Of course all rimfire ammo is subject to reliability issues compared to center fire ammo, which rarely has a dud if the ammo is stored properly, but rimfire by design is more liable to misfires because of the way the liquid priming compound is put in and distributed around the rim of the case. After all, when the concept of cartridges was originated over 150 years ago, there were several "schemes" for priming and different priming compounds were used, But by 1872 or so, "central fire" was the preferred method of priming mainly because it had more reliable ignition than most other methods.. Only a few modern cartridges are rimfire, mainly because it is cheaper to manufacture, the case internal pressures are usually less, and the "need" for reliability is usually less. If it is Winchester "silver can" I would have no qualms at all of putting it up on the shelf and expecting it to work 20 years later. Good stuff.

I've seen good reliability out of the canned Federal ammo packed in nitrogen that has started showing up lately. I see a LOT of rimfire ammo sent down range over the course of a year and this stuff really seems to be the best stuff going now days. I usually cringe when a shooter shows up with a bulk pack of Remington or Winchester because be the end if the weekend they will usually be having issues out of their rifle.
I have been an instructor for the Appleseed Project for 6 years now traveling all over the country giving American Heritage and rifle marksmanship clinics. I saw right at 400,000 rounds go down range last year with the Appleseed Project let alone.
Great ammo buy it when you can.

Finding ammo in stock is challenging these days. I really like sgammo.com, they are a good outfit but have generally been sold out.

I have never found a deal on gun broker though I do know a guy that was selling ammo on gun broker at a huge profit a few months ago. I could not believe people were buying it for such crazy prices.
There are still good deals on ammo out there if you look around and look often. There is no reason to pay inflated prices.
