You could probably sell enough $100 hog hunts to pay for some fencing material. If you want the headache

They are pretty nasty. DVM from Mississippi State who specializes in wild hog eradication advises to always wear protection when handling the carcus. After attending a seminar, I would never eat wild hog and fully understand why it is not kosher.

When we trap one we throw it in cattle trailer and feed it out to get some wild taste out and they eat good. Boars are given away or left laying.

Is there any advantage/disadvantage of Longhorn?

Anyone with thoughts on buffalo?

Longhorns are beautiful, and can survive just about any climate.
They don't bring much at an auction, and they are hard to get through the shute.
We own one and love her to death, and her calves usually don't have horns due to the daddy being av registered Angus.

To me the biggest issue you will have is the 2 hour drive to the farm...
Cattle need to be looked after on a continuous basis...
We had 3 small herds at one time...
The farms were 100, 70, and 70 acres...
My dad would feed each herd daily in the winter...
3 different farms that was only 3 miles away took considerable time...
We had a tractor located at each farm with a spear to load the round bales...
You may be able to pull it off but I think that with the logistics you are looking at working your farm mostly on the weekends...
With that said I don't know if cattle or anything involving animals are going to be a good option...
I would talk to my local ag agent and get some suggestions from them concerning management of this parcel...
You may want to start out making hay and selling it and then work into the cattle later...
