JOHNNY CASH

When I was a kid in the late 50s - early 60s, my dad listened to country music non stop. I hated it. Really hated it.

But now, I realize that that stuff you could hear on the radio back then was real - Johnny, Patsy, Willie, George Jones - they were artists and actually got played on the radio /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You just don't hear that sort of thing on the radio any more, you couldn't make one of them out of 10 Garths or Tobys.

My dad and mom want to spend a couple days at my country place next month, I've made them a CD of Mr. Cash and another original, Mr Bob Wills. I know he'll enjoy them...

And I guess it was obvious that when June Carter left, Johnny would not be far behind. RIP

Hi, huge Johnny Cash fan here.
I even named my black cat after him !! lol!!
Just love his music, unfortunately, wasn't lucky enough to see him perform.
Closest I got was his younger brother Tommy, he toured here in Canada 2-3 years ago doing a tribute show to his brotherwith the band Country Legends...and telling the crowd all kind of stories behind the songs and such.
Great artist...
I also think like the previous post that today's so called country music is just garbage to me...the old boys and girls of country aren't replaced...by chance their music lives on.
Rest in peace Johnny !

I had the pleasure of seeing Johnny in concert twice back in the late 50's in Albuquerque...the last time was with Ray Orbison. Johnny put on a great show, but he was seemingly so impaired that he could hardly stand on the stage. Surprisingly, he never missed a beat, never forgot a word, or missed a cue. I play and sing some of Johnny's stuff; he was probably in my top 3 favorites, along with Faron young and Marty Robbins.

2Lane; Once again, you and I agree on something. Marty Robbins is one of my favorites. I sometimes think that I will wear out the CD, I have of his, that has all of the old gunfighter ballads!

2llane.....Johnny bought me and a buddy a beer in 1975 at the Troubadour in Hollywood, Calif. We were there for a Willie Nelson gig.......Johnny, Kris Kritofferson, Rita Coolidge and Waylon Jennings sat at the table next to us. I remember Kris being pretty drunk. My buddy was a writer for the LA Times and Rollingstone Magazine......great night. Johnny was a nice guy. I play his songs as well.

He was one of my favorites. I've seen the Statler Brothers, and John's brother Tommy, in his tribute show but, never saw John in person.
