I guess I'm an old timer, stuck in yesteryear. Oh well. My new tractor will be here on Friday. I'm going to put my headphones on, listen to music and spend a few relaxing hours mowing the lawn and enjoying the new rig.

I was drafted in the Army in 1971 at the ripe age of 19. Retired from the Army in 2011 after 40 years, 9 months and 2 days. Spent 42 months in 4 different war zones including Vietnam. 20 years as a First Sergeant deploying all or part of my Company 9 times to 6 different conflicts.

My Wife said the other day, your life used to be so big with so much interaction with so many different people at so many different levels. Now your World is so very small and many days you don't interact with anyone except me. She said that with concern. I smiled and said yeah ain't life great!!! And I meant it. I can spend all day on my tractor at our farm and never once wish someone would call or text or stop by to see me. I can peacefully sit under a big oak tree and eat my lunch all alone except for our dog and be in total Heaven. In my opinion, that is what our military provides us. Now I know there are Soldiers who have got my back and are protecting my right to spend my days doing just this. God Bless America.

....details of impressive (AND VERY APPRECIATED) military service deleted for brevity.

Too right!

I've been laid up at home for a little while (since May 20) with something like 2-3 more months before I can reasonably expect to be able to walk somewhat normally, much less be able to return to work with any reasonable amount of ability to get stuff done, and while I hate the enforced inactivity and my inability to do much, if any of the sorely needed chores, repairs, and maintenance around here (said limitations being strictly enforced by my RN/wife) I to admit that I love being at home, watching the koi and birds (cardinals, blue jays, turkeys, finches, phoebes, etc.), playing with our mastiff, and being with my better half way more than our usually allotted time together.

Given the circumstance, my only choice is to take it one day at a time and enjoy the good things, and not dwell on the the rest.

Thanks to all our current and past servicemen and women for making it safe for me to be crippled up at home and not have to worry about being able to protect my family.

Gratefully,
Thomas
