Hi all
My 4110 2002 or about , bogged down and quit. Changed fuel filter , ran slightly better but no power. Lots of white smoke. Book indicates one filter in fuel system. However, book indicates in fuel system tips, "do not change both the filters at the same time". I am wondering if there is secondary filter some where.

Can anyone give some tips what white exhaust means?

White can possibly mean water, either in the fuel or from a head gasket or cracked head.

Could be water or some internal failure, or even an injection pump problem, but it is normally a clogged fuel filter, bad fuel (crud, water, or gasoline in the diesel), crud in the tank blocking the outlet, etc. A person can test by taking off the low pressure line at the FIP and making sure you have a steady stream of fuel feeding the pump. Let it run in a bucket for a minute or two. The flow should be constant. I don't recall if it has one or two filters. I would go that route before looking for the more serious causes.

Scary thought. Especially since my brother-in-law was last to run it, and it heated up a lot. He's blind as a bat too. Didn't notice heat gauge. Couple days ago I had chaff etc. cleaned fron rad. Ran briefly and ok. Yesterday grandson ran for about 30 minutes pulling finish mower. Got into high grass putting a little strain on tractor and started running funny. Then bogged down and quit past heavy grass. Also, he just put part can fuel in. I was able to check temp gauge right when it quit and it was good. So the heat up
problem was cured. Didn't see any water in filter. But, I may drain tank first. I'm from try easy stuff first ville .
I did change filter and it helped some. At this point in time I'm cheering " come on water in fuel tank".

My book says one filter under changing and cleaning filters. Under fuel saving tips book says , if system gets choked, do not change both filters. In service manual I can't even find index let alone fuel system info.

Looking for easy stuff? I service electronic equipment. I have had occasions when I asked folks checked to see if unit plugged in and they checked. I run 10 miles and find the on off switch off. And I'm happy, easy fix. So if my problem is water or dirt in system because of something dumb, I'll be happy. I agree, always do easy cheap things first.

My 4110 was built in 2001 and it has only the element filter up front. I've had the fuel tank out of mine and have split the tractor a few times and know it intimately and there is no secondary filter on mine.

Hi all
Was happy to report draining tank , adding new fuel and adding a little of that stuff to dry tank did the trick, for a while. Ran 3 hours then started puffing little white smoke and no power. Coundn't even pull mower. Buy the way, I also changed fuel line from filter to fuel pump. It was oozing.

I was going to change rest of lines next day. Also noticed oil is about 3/4 quart over. Oil is not cloudy or look like water in it. Water is ok.

A quick reply to all. I put more "water soaker upper" in tank and added fuel. It started again OK. Got a lot more hours out of machine with a couple bursts of white smoke for short periods. I guess tank didn't get emptied completely when drained. I wanted to pass along that it seems not much water can cause problems. I have about 40 hrs. on tractor since last problem. Not even a hiccup. My oil is about 1/4 quart over now. Might have been over before but this time I checked oil on level ground. Makes a difference.
