Jinma 454
I need to replace my fuel pump, but they are very expensive. I was thinking of just trying an in-line universal electric one. Has anyone tried that?

Welcome to TractorByNet!

I moved your thread to the Chinese Tractors forum. :)

Are all Chinese tractors diesel?

Honest question.

All the ones I've seen.

The underlying question is: why do you need to replace the injector pump? These things rarely go bad if you maintain the tractor properly and keep your fuel system clean.

Okay to the op, 'if' the tractor is a diesel there are a whole lot of reasons one can not just replace a diesel pump fuel with an electrical pump. That is enless what you're asking about is the pump that is a so called primer pump for the injector pump.
But for the primary injector pump, no you will not ever find an electrical pump that can get the pressures necessary to 'pop' the injector noozles. And never mind the timing envolved.
If you have a new (cutting state of the art) electric activated injectors then please bring us all up to speed.

The electronic injectors do not create any pressure themselves, that is created by a high pressure pump , and the system is known as "common rail" which none of these engines have.

If the OP is referring to the lift pump that is mounted to the side of the injection pump/governor asembly (some call it the priming pump but that is actually a seperate pump that is attached to the lift pump), the answer is yes but you must make sure it creates enough volume to keep the fuel cavity in the injection pump full, and that it's rated for diesel fuel - not gasoline. There is a difference.

Yep, I'm just learning 'bout electric diesel injection.
What I do know is they're opened by solenoid (and there by timed electrically) and not by pressure.

What kind of pressures do they run in the common rail system?

I have changed the fuel filter, changed the oil in the pump, checked all the line to make sure nothing is blocked, used the hand pump to prime it, but nothing comes out at the engine, So I am at a loss. Do you have any ideas of things to try?
