I seem to be going wearing blades at a rate I think is a little too much. After 38 hours blades were destroyed..... ripped on edges, no way to sharpen or repair. Now have 22 hours on replacement blades and they are showing signs of the first pair of blade issues. What is the normal wear time for blades on a mower like this?

Someone else will have to offer opinion on this particular mower.
But in general I know you can buy all kinds of quality blades.
If they are OEM JD blades...
This is totally dependent on what you cut and especially how many sticks or rocks you have.
If it's all clean DRY grass. You should get maybe as high as 100 hours on a set of blades, if they are sharpened correctly and often.
It's best to sharpen blades maybe 2-3 times a year when they are not so gapped and you have to remove so much metal.
Rocks is the real culprit that chip away huge sections and you then need to take away what would be many months of normal wear.

I use a 6" belt sander to sharpen my blades. If you have a rock problem they can need to be sharpened even after 2 or 3 mowings.
This is totally dependent on how much grinding is necessary, but I normally sharpen mine "maybe" 6 times before I have to get a new set of blades. If I get 3 years I am real happy. This is about twice a year sharpening.

Depends on soil and grass type.... If you mow when the soil is dry, the blades can suck up sand/dirt and abrade the blades.... I have found watering then mow the next day saves on blades.... some grasses will take up silica... that type of grass will abrade blades....
Without more information about your situation, guessing is all we can do to answer your question.....

How many acres have you cut in an hours use and what are the conditions? You may be cutting four times as much grass as some of us here, so I would expect accelerated wear on your blades.

Post a picture of the worn blades. I have a JD z465, bought it a 130 hrs now has 230 hrs I sharpened once a year. I would guess its the original blades. My grass is what I call field grass which is pretty coarse. I also mow about 800' along a road. Possibly your mowing to short?
