Has anyone installed a "Combination Ball Socket" on their 3PH lift arms?
I have a category 2 three point hitch, and implements that take both cat. 1 and 2. I don't like the JD system of installing bushings.
The replacement ball and socket I was looking at features a cross drilled ball for cat 1 or 2.
What is the best way to prepare the arms, for the weld in sockets? I was told to just torch out a hole....... eh.

Thanks, Bill

wow that seems like a lot of work , wouldn't just buying several pairs of bushing and just upsizing all the cat 1 stuff be easier.

In addition to my cat2 3PH, I also have a 3PH adapter that's Cat 1 it attaches in place of my loader. With it I can put my york rake on the loader arms, and reach down embankments. I also attach my carryall that same way to use it as a manlift.
So there are some attachments that get used on the front Cat 1 and the rear Cat2 hitch.

I need to look at my neighbors Massy. His 243 has a simple system where you can remove the balls and swap them for the other size. I have done so on his tractor, but never paid much attention to how it was designed.
With the JD system I have, sometimes you need different length bushings, to fit different attachments, so it's kinda a PITA.

I guess there is a little work involved, in making the modifications, but once done it should last the life of the tractor. (Or at least the rest of my life.)

The other option is installing 5M arms, at a cost of $800.

Best, Bill

I'm not familiar with the JD system I guess that's the JD quick hitch? If it was a normal system I would just put the smaller cat one pins in the implements and standardize all my stuff. Worse case scenario I bend the lighter duty pin. I just modified all my implements to work on my cat 1 quick hitch.

The 3PH is a standard cat2. To better understand what I'm trying to do, you may need to reread my original post #1.

Our little 885 David Brown has those. They were installed before my time but it looks like they simply torched a semicircle around the old ends and stick welded the new ones in place. They work well and agree they are a lot nicer than keeping track of bushings.

I'm glad to hear that you are happy with them.
When they installed them, did they weld on both sides of the lift arm, or just one side?
