I have been looking for a cheap tractor to replace the one I sold a couple of years back. Last nite I was told of a MF165,with fel that is for sale.they are asking $1600. Tractor is running and all hydraulics work, but the clutch seems to be stuck. It will crank in gear and drive, but the clutch wont disengage. Before I go look at the tractor, I would kind of like to have some ideal as to what will be needed to get the clutch working again. I dont want to buy a bargain only to find out its going to cost me more to fix it than I am willing to spend. I know the owners, who just bought the tractor themselfs, just dont want to try and fix it. They have been driving it around in the field thinking the clutch might unstick on its own, but that hasnt happened. I dont know any other history of the tractor, but it s currently painted bright yellow, which makes me think it might be a old state tractor.

press in the clutch pedal, while driving in the open field lock down one brake, then the other. Hopefully that will un stick the pressure plate. I have also heard of chaining the lower draw bar to a tree, press in the clutch and increase throttle untill it breaks loose.

with the tractor off and in high road gear drag it with another tractor or truck, should free it up

These suggestion might free up the clutch, but I am really thinking long term. They have been driving the tractor around now for wks thinking the clutch would freeup and it hasnt. If i buy it, it might sit unused for months at a time. Meaning, whatever is sticking the clutch, will probably just stick it again. My guess is clutch disk rusted to flywheel/pressureplate, might be a broke clutch fork, who knows. I have taken tractors apart before, but isnt something I do a lot of or often. My concerns are what parts might need to be replaced and what will they cost me.

remove the inspection cover from the bottom of the clutch housing. Have someone step on the clutch or tie it down and gently pry under the clutch disc to free it from its driving plate. Try and pry only on the steel disc of the clutch disc and not the lining. Rotate the engine and pry at as many areas as possible. If its a gasser remove the spark plugs and you should be able to rotate it by the clutch. I don't think this will cause much harm. Anybody ever do this?

Still havent looked at the tractor, but did get some pic. I dont believe its a mf165. From the pics I am leaning more toward the industrial mf30, it has the mf34 loader on it. It is yellow like the industrial tractors. Has 1900 hrs, industrial tires. Pto and three pt hitch, 4cyl diesel engine. I know a lot of these tractors didnt have the 3pt hitch or a pto. Dont know if it has the shuttle shift or not and dont know the year model but it has the square hood so probably mid 70's.

Can't speak of what wear and damage there might be, but for storage, just park it with the clutch depressed. Vice grips, a stick or bungie cord works fine.
