With the negative aspect of NPT fittings, I am surprised anybody is using them for hyd.

If you are going to use them, use them once or twice and then throw them away.

I am thinking that most people would know what to do here.

Yeah, exactly. There is a "right way" and then there is the "it'll work way".

If you look at how the tractor manufacturers do it, you see JIC hoses onto flared fittings. If you buy a factory quick connect kit, you will find bulkhead fittings.

It's just the "right" way to do it. Sure, other ways will work...doesn't mean they are proper.

Ok.. Next time I will do it properly.. My work this time was born of ignorance, and haste. I have been so advised, and I have learned.
Thank You.

My brother went to work for major jet engine company about a 18 months ago. Works in the proto type engine department. He was working in a test chamber that goes down to 60 below zero. Because of the cold they were only able to run a single test per shift. Been doing it that way for 40 years. Because he thought out side the box, they can now run 2 tests per shift.

Point being, just because most people do things a certain way does not mean that there isn't another way that is just as good or even better. ;)

Nah man, that's cool. I applaud your ingenuity with the tig'ed up custom crush washer. Just for the time spent, bulkheads would have been easier and quicker.

Is your hose NPT on both ends?

You did fine, a lot of what people are saying is just what they know. Do I prefer JIC, yes. Do you find JIC on 10k pressure lines? NO, Why because they won't seal at that high pressure. What do you find? Humm, NPT. So with some throwing rocks at NPT, well they must not be all that bad EH? And yes I deal with high pressure stuff all the time, The next step up is either welded or adjustable coned and threaded fitting. Don't believe me? Look at your 10000psi portapower and see what is on that. Again good job. CJ
